First I get the Bird to like me and want to be on my shoulder. Then when I watch TV, I may make popcorn or have some potato chips and I offer a piece to the Bird and they start eating. You will find they like many things we eat. The bad problem with this; If, the Bird allowed to fly free as mine do. They can be very aggressive when it time to eat. Mine loved Bacon and Eggs and when it was Breakfast time here he come on my shoulder. If, I not give him some food he might bite me (Not hard) or do a Dive Bomber Attack into my plate. But, I enjoyed the interaction, so, it was not a big deal to me. I usually fix a small plate on the side with some Bacon and Scrambled eggs and a small Shot glass of water and he was happy.

Well first get it used to eating from a food bowl. Then, train it to know that your hand is a friend that offers food, rather than something scary. Get it used to your hand being in the cage. And fill your your hand with bird food and place your hand by the parakeets chest. When it hops on your hand, move your hand closer to the mouth. Then it will eat itself. IF it doesn't eat from your hand, leave it alone, because it probably eats enough from the food bowl.

Accually hand feeding is done to young birds not adults. How old are your birds?? You should not try and handfeed older birds! Hand feeding refers to feeding young birds that are still be fed by the parents. If you are talking about older birds all you can do is try to get them to eat from your hand.

give treats to him/her from your hand. The more you try, the more likely he/she is to take it from your hand, but make sure you keep food in a dish too, incase he/she doesnt feel like being bothered.
