I think the reason you hear that kids now are so spoiled is because of the fact there are so many more "material" things for them to do. You have all the different game systems, computers, internet, things like that. It seems that kids now aren't as active as we used to be. When I was growing up we had to entertain ourselves...that included climbing trees, playing outside, using our imaginations. We didn't have playstations when I was growing. We had Saturday morning cartoons, and that was it. After our cartoons we were right back outside, and came in to eat and that was it. So I don't know if it's so much that kids are spoiled (and yes, some are) it's just different today than it was years ago just due to the changes in technology.

Hi,
Good question! Bad influence has been around for a long time and the same things have been happening since the beginning of time. It has continually gotten worse and more and more bad influence has developed due to the acceptance of things that are not good. Satan has influenced our society to accept things that are bad. It seems that the more different you are and the weirder you look the more accepted you are. There is nothing wrong with diversity because we are individuals that are as different as the snow flakes are. As long as we align our life with what is good, what is true and righteous, along with God's word there is no harm in diversity. Young people do accomplish much and I will give you an example of this. In the system of the world a 19 year old went into his bed room, shut the door and did not come out of it untill he came up with an idea to start his own business. Three days later he had it going and now has his own office, with about 40 employees of his own. He sell office chairs and equipment and so forth. The potential for young people is great, it is the limits of your own self that determine what you do with it. Focus on what you can do to help others and keep Gods law in mind and stay far from Satan's reach. Use your potential for good what ever you do, remember David and Goliath? A young man with a rock brought a giant down to the ground! With God's approval and backing all things are possible. Here is an interesting link to an article you might enjoy.

There is some truth yes, but there is a downturn. The younger the generation, the more likely they will stay at home under their parent's wings. There is a whole physcological theory behind it having to do with WWI and WWII. I had a semester class in it a couple years ago. Couldn't tell you the textbook any more though. I am 21 and I can say that most of the people I know never went on to college, or even on to a job. Most still live in their parent's house getting free everything. I know some 25 year olds that still don't have a job, unless you count online poker as a job.

In some ways all generations think that the generations after them are spoiled brats and will never do anything with their lives. However, the world is always changing and the skills needed to have a successful life are changing as well. You can't use television as a measure of how the youth of today are compared to other generations. Television is intentionally showing sensational and exaggerated images in order to generate viewership.
Just like always, there are good kids and there are bad kids. History is evidence of this. However, people have short memories or tunnel vision and think only of their own experiences.

no doubt every older generation has been critical of the young. When I was in college a prof showed us an article which sounded critical of us and was about the young. It was written in 535 AD.
One can not argue with the SAT scores that have gone down since the 60's and in the face of the test being made easier. This however is critical of the schools not the children. Ever check out chat rooms in places like Texas and Arkansas, now there are some illiterate people in those places.

Generally it is a broad statement because no matter what your grandparents had to go uphill both ways to get to and from school.
These days they say they had to take two buses.
In my area there is a high rate of unemployment among young workers, however many families from Portugal and Mexico come to work in the fields during harvest.
They work the season and live off of it for a year.
They leave very happy with their money and we still have unemployment.

Oh you mean like Jamie Lynne Spears, and Lindsay Lohan,m or Hilary Duff....
I wonder the same thing, Media portrayes the next generations are going to be even worse at this,
But when I turn the TV off, and look at the youth around me. My five year old neice was showing a full grown man how to work a camera phone.
I think most of the "spoiledness" comes from parenting.
In society EVERYTHING is considered abuse, When I was little and in trouble I got a spanking, now kids are hauled off to adobtion homes for the same thing. Make sure your kids aren't hurting themselves or other's, give them the necesities, but you'll never learn to live unless parents LET thier kidsd make mistakes and get themselves out of it.

There have alway been "bad apples".... to day though, they are allowed to spread their rotteness and are even incouraged in it. the majority are ingrained with the concept of being "intitled" to things... not haveing to work for all that is received... as a child I, and most I knew, were never intitled to any material thing... if it was not worked for or earned in some way we did not get...Christmas and birthdays maybe tthe only exceptions....now even the "poor" are intitled to more than my family was even able to get by hard work many times... the young are not being taught how to work, in the US at least. at one time it was only teh very rich taht had the image of being "spoiled"...now it is the last two generations almost intirely... but it is now starting to fall apart... greed without someone to do the work can not be satisfied indefinatly.... why do you think there is such a stron support for " illegal" immigration in this country among the younger people... they do not want ot have to work for what they get.....they all want to "supervise" and have "careers"

It's quite evident, by comparing my grandparents' generation to this one, even just at my mother's level, that kid's today are more self-centered and self-serving than any of the prior generations. All kids question, all kids rebel and act up to a degree, but it's only recently (within the last 2 generations at least) that kids have become more and more self-focused and less reliable in many ways.

I definitely think there are good kids today, but I think it's getting rarer and rarer when kids turn out right, even kids from Christian homes. There is so much negative influence around them that it is really hard for parents to supervise like they did a couple of generations ago. And don't forget, back then, most Moms were stay at homers, so that made it harder for kids to get away with doing things they are doing nowadays, too!
