Are you asking whether or not it would appropriate, or where you should get one?
If it's an evening do, it would certainly be appropriate, especially as you should be the belle of the ball. For a daytime event, it's more questionable. However, if you have a nice jacket or throw with a fab shorter length frock underneath, that would be great too.
As to where to look, try Monsoon, most department stores - John Lewis/Debenhams etc, Jaegar, Phase Eight, Principles.
There are lots of greys and silvers in the shops this season, so if you have the right colouring, perhaps you could find something in silver to really match the event?
Have a wonderful time!

Like others I am not sure whether your are asking if this would be okay, or where to buy one
Hey it is your 'do' you would like one then go ahead and wear exactly what you want, it isn't often thesed days you have the chance to wear an evening gown.
You can get amazing bargains at the moment in the sales as they are clearing the Christmas party dresses out (the powers that be don't think people wear party dresses at any other time||||)
The thing that puts many people off ebay clothes is in case they don't fit - you can resell them, but there are many ebay shops on the site who will exchange them for you without any problem. I have had lots of really good bargains from ebay and have never had to exchange any.
Congratulations on your anniversary and very best wishes for yor reception

Only wear an evening gown if it's a formal evening party. You husband will need to wear a dinner jacket/tuxedo and the other guests will need to be dressed formally too. This may put them off coming if they don't have ready outfits and need to buy/rent them.
Have you thought about wearing a silver cocktail or shift dress instead? Something in silver lame or silver raw silk with a shimmery shawl and jewelled strappy heels? Wear your hair up with a rhinestone clip or a white ostrich feather decoration? Don't over-do it! But I think it'd make a nice semi-formal alternative.

If you are in the UK, TKmax have a great sale on right now for evening gowns. They are normally Morgan or similar designs.
