I have a 7 month old mini schnauzer, and he poops in his kennel EVERY night, and we have no idea of what to do. We have NO time to clean it in the mornings, so we justc wipe it out with the soiled towel, and put him in there for the day. I feel really bad for the pup because my dad is getting really fed up with him and spanks him, hard. Please help

First of all if your dad is spanking him fist thing in the morning the poor dog has no idea what he is being spanked for. Dogs have a real short memory when it comes to simple things.

Now my question to you is do you free feed? Which basically means do you allow the dog access to food 27/7. If you do stop that immediately. This not only will throw your dogs bowls out of routine but will also compromise your position as pack leader. By feeding your dog as directed on the dog food packaging you will be able to train your dog to eliminate on a certain schedule, your schedule that is.

Also, stop all feeding at around 6-7 o'clock at night and allow the dog to go out before your family goes to bed. Reward the dog with a treat or praise every time he eliminates outside. This will teach the dog that it is good to go outside.

I hope this helps. Good- Luck.

Unfortunatley spanking the dog way after the fact does not help and only scares the poor thing. We went through it with our dog he is now 10 weeks old and no longer poops in his kennel, some dogs do is cause they are afraid of the dark, many people on this site helped me out and said to put a night light and either a ticking clock or a soft music (i use classical music) in his room with him. It totally works! We spank our dog and tell him no when we catch him in the act but if we don't there is not much we can do about it. GOOD LUCK I know how hard it is!

OMG! find a good home for this poor pup. This is horrible. If you have no time to clean his mess then you have no time to properly train him! And FYI the dog has NO IDEA what hes getting smacked for. Give him to a nice home and dont get a dog again until you know what the hell you are doing.

Poor pup.... I never kept my dog in one of those things. We let him walk around the house (we don't have much carpet), and he's pretty smart so he learned quick. Take him to the poo/pee and tell him NO. Wag your finger or head. We spanked our dog, but I feel bad for yours. We took our dog outside until he got it. Reward him (give him a bone or treat) for getting it right. My dog understands what "You wanna go outside?" is, and he'll stand by the door and scratch it. We kept repeating "go outside" to him until he got it. If all else fails, take it to a professional trainer or give/sell it.

Okay, I agree that he should probably be given to someone who can dedicate the necessary time to him and provide him the care and love he needs.

That aside, a method that works well for me:

When the puppy poos on the rug, simply hold him near it (dont rub his nose in it, thats stupid) and spank him several times (not hard, just make it uncomfortable).

Then take half od the poo and take it outside on the lawn (or wherever). Then take the puppy outside and hold him near the poop and pet him and praise him profusely.

Take him back inside and repeat the process like 3 more times.

He should get it after a few more tries...
