During the last apparition, on October 13, 1917, the Lady of light revealed herself to be Our Lady of the Rosary. The 70,000 rain-soaked pilgrims who came to witness Mary's final appearance saw the sun spin out of its orbit, emitting a rainbow of color as it gyrated; finally, when this display ceased, the sun was seen plunging toward the earth causing the pilgrims to scream in terror. When the sun eventually resumed its normal behavior about twelve minutes after it began this inexplicable display, many of these rain-soaked people found their clothing completely dry,

Read Dawkins' account of this.

For it to really have happened then the Sun must have been ripped from its orbit throwing the whole solar system into chaos, the Earth and everything in it would have fried as it would have been bathed in UV light way to intense for anything to survive and tidal waves the like of which could not be inmagined would have ravaged the earth.

That or it was a mass halucination or a downright lie, what do you think?

additional reading would be Hume's 'On Miracles' from the Enquiry chapter x, though somehow I doubt you'll get that far.

I am very interested in finding out more details on our lady of Fatima prophecys. When I read that part about the sun plunging to earth, it kind of sent a chill through me because when I was 12, I had a horrifying nightmare about the sun plunging to earth. This was the first of many bone chilling nightmares.
Is there any good web sites?

Could be true. Could be mass hysteria. Anything is possible. It changed the life of the children so in that regard it was real for them. When the heavens opened at Jesus' baptism some head a voice from heaven and others only thunder. We were not there on either occassion, so we can never really know. Keep an open mind.

What evidence?......... I have The asurance of God's Word that the last Prophet of God to mankind was John The Baptist. That There would be no "additional" messages after the decliration of Christ that He had "finished" His work, The Word..... there are indeed personal communications of God to His people individualy. but these are for the individual and are not to amend, alter, expand, or otherwise reinterprit, Christs compleated work....

Mary, The Mother of Jesus The Christ, would not be used By God in that way.... In Heaven Mary has a special place of great respect... God would not make her such a spectical...

The Word is Christ and The Message is from Christ.... not from immaginary apperitions

It's funny, isn't it, that most of the reporters who were there, as well as all the cameras... failed to report on the 'miracle of the sun'?

It's funny, also, that certain arrangements of cirrostratus clouds can cause similiar effects in conditions that were prevalent on that day, but only within narrow viewing angles. And considering this phenomenon has been observed and documented as a nonmiracle, why is this one occurance of it suddenly a miracle?

With so many more plausible explainations, why leap for the miracle?

Well, the Devil sure can fool lots of people...
If the Fatima thing is accurate, what stops Mary from doing it these days, when everyone could see it on TV and stop disputing it?
I for one don't believe in that, because it puts Jesus on the same level with Mary, which is kindof idolatry, don't you think?

I'm sure these things were felt and seen. I even believe the one child's account of hell too. Everything is quite in line with Buddhism, it doesn't necessarily prove a "creator god" exists though, but I see the BVM as being like a Buddhist Bodhisattva who's coming back to meet the needs of those who need her, in the way they NEED it, since they don't know or understand anything else. It's that simple.

Yes I believe something happened but I question where it came from. Just who and what was responsible for this apparition? I don't believe that it was God sent. I do believe that the powers responsible for this wondrous lie, were allowed to commit this fraud by God's consent. I don't believe Mary was there at all. Something else was at hand there.

Yes I believe what happened because of the sheer number of conversions that came out of it. Many people gave up their sinful ways and began living better lives. That's proof enough for me!
