I agree kerridwen! I use genteal drops because I have dry eyes and allergy eyes.
If it feels like you're needing them more and more and your using any of the ones for gets the red out, it could just be that you have become ammune to them.
Change drops.

My opthamologist told me to stop using any of the "gets the red out" type of eyedrops. I work on computers over 9 hours a day as an artist (so, I'm really doing a lot of monitor viewing) and I suffer from a minor "dry eye."

He explained that the thing that makes the eyes less red is actually constricting the blood vessels in the eyes. Switch to using a dry-eyes formula. Genteal "moderate" is my favourite but any of the kind that are NOT for reducing redness should be okay. http://tinyurl.com/y3fqsb

I wear glasses due to the dryness of my eyes and require several drops a day.

The doctor also said that if someone uses the "gets the red out" style of drops for a very long time, they will stop being effective anyway. Therefore, you may as well switch to one for comfort and save the redness reducing for special occasions or contact an opthamologist for prescription drops that will combat irritation due to allergies. My experience is the prescription drops were not very effective, either.

I imagine so. I'm addicted to lip balm - for many years. If I don't have it with me and can use it, my lips hurt to the point of distraction. Go figure.
