Can't tell you about jobs & places to live in Brooklyn or Queens, but save up your money for living expenses & start doing a job search online in the area. If you can, find a company that has facilities in your home area, as well as in the ny/nj area, so you can transfer when the time is right. You don't want to get yourself into trouble while in NY or NJ. Cost of living in that area is higher than most parts of the country. Good luck!

If you live in NY, be prepared to pay $$$$. If you live in NJ, it's a little cheaper but not as nice. You can't just show up with no job and no place to live. It's not easy and can be dangerous. Get some job interviews...try careerbuilder.com, and once you land the job, you'll have a reference for an apartment or a room. Then you're on your way. Good luck

I would move to Jersey city or Hoboken in NJ, because its closer to midtown then queens or brooklyn, and much safer.
When you go to get an apartment you need the money in a checking account and ready to go, you need first months, last months and usually 1.5 months security. Apartments go VERY fast so when you want something go looking with your check book in hand.
Jobs are easy to find if you have good skills.

You definenitly need a thought out plan. The cost of living is the highest in the country next to LA. New Jersey would be a mistake, I would suggest New York only because there are probably better job oppurtunities.

If you live out of either of these states now, you will find the cost of living much much higher than other states (except for California). The wage earning is higher, but it is eaten up by the cost of travel, utilities, rent, etc.
It can be done, but I would advise you to have a job first and decide what you can afford, come up with a budget of how you would live, then make sure it can be done on that budget.

I love it here! I moved to the area in April 06 and it's great. I work in Mid-town and live near Hoboken, NJ. The area is great because the Ferry ride is 6 minutes into Mid-town and there are a ton of great restaurants and shops close by to our home.
Go for it!
