I Iive in a town 40 minutes away from Chicago, our town is one of the largest growing in the nation, from malls, to the second ikea in illinois, to all those stores and schools i would say my town is big. This morning i woke up to our emergancy sirens ringing, i got shocked as they got louder and louder, the first thing i thaught was that it was just a test and it was, but then it got me thinking, what if it was real, where would i go??? what do i do?? I see Israelis in Israel have bomb shelters and know when to go, but us here in the U.S, do we have bomb shelters??? where would i go incase of an attack?? are we not safe??? thanks to all!

Best thing to do is to be prepaired. Have supplies/food for you and your family. Plan an escape route or rally point for those that may not be home at the time.
If you trust your government: Listen to the radio for updates on where to go.
If you don't trust your government: Prepare for the worst, make sure you have tents/clothes/weapons/ammo to fight off potential threats (which include other Americans looking to take what you have because they failed to plan).
There are many sites that can give you an idea of what gear you need to keep on standby.

If I were to take a wild guess, they may have been testing the alarm system for the power plant in Zion. They usually announce these tests in the paper and on TV. Look at the News Sun every once in a while and stop looking at Y/A.
As far as where to go. Here in California, there is basic info in the front of the phone book. Contains information about first aid, evacuations, and items needed for an emergency kit: IE water, clothing, food cash etc.

First off relax, there is no direct threat to Chicago or any other town to be under missle, mortar or rocket fire. Highly impossible that Canada would try something that dumb. One of our Great defenses in the United States is that we are so spread out. If you go to anywhere else like Isreal, Iraq, or some other third world country their towns are clustered too, but their country is small in comparison to ours. Ranges on rockets, and mortars don't span continents, they have to be used locally, not globally. Even if someone in your neighborhood had a mortar tube the police would be able to zero in on their position before they could actually hit anything. Besides that is why we as American's have the 2nd Amendment (the right to bear arms). You are not as helpless as you believe. Now as for chemical threats, you need to tune into the radio, and local news for information on what to do and where to go. Any other questions reference the website below...

You're 40 minutes from Chicago. It's 40 minutes from one end of Israel to the other. They need those things and you don't. Even if Canada were to declare war on Illinois you'd have plenty of geography on your side. And even if the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup I don't think Canada would pose that great a threat. They're nice people.

Theres no real threat to the US, but Israel is surrounded by crazy dictators that hate them. The US is 1,000s of miles away from anyone that COULD do ANY harm to us, and then the only country capable (Russia) knows that if they shoot ONE missle, theyll be bombarded by the US's. Plus they just put in Patriot systems on America's West Coast so actually, we're pretty safe as of now.

It's NOT "incase of an attack"..
"attack" is not the adjective I would use to describe WORLD WAR THREE... and we know who to blame for our future scenario...
To answer your question.. what can anyone do in 4 minutes?
Not a lot I think.. so forget about it and enjoy TODAY !.. our Fathers and Grand-Fathers fought for the 60+ years of peace we have been fortunate to experience, a peace our sons, brothers, fathers, sisters, Mothers are fighting for today so we may enjoy TODAY.
Stop being selfish and support our troops - particularly the UK troops in Afghanistan having to survive as best as they can after US asked for thier help, then withdrew 77% of US troops leaving them under-manned and under-resourced to sort out the mess there !

The Israelisis have enemy nations touching their borders with missles. We have the ocean on our borders. The only bomb attack we could get is a nuclear one, inwhich you'd be better off dead because the radiation would slowly and painfully killl you if you survived. Even with that said, you live in the middle of the US and don't think their are any nuclear missles that would get there.

you should run to your emergency preparedness kit and start duct taping your house's interior rooms with the plastic sheeting that you bought and stored for such an attack. you should also ready your gas masks that have been purchased and stockpiled for this purpose as well.
