I live in a very small town where I'm the only birth doula - and I doubt that many pregnant women in our area know what they do. For that matter, I doubt that most of the local OB/GYNs have worked with one either. Any ideas on the best way to introduce myself to the OB practices and find clients?

Make up a little flyer about what services you will provide and your contact info. Take it to the different OB/GYN and midwives and don't forget family practice docs too. Contact the hospitals and any childbirth instructors or La Leche League Leaders in your area too. Contact the local WIC office as well. Maybe maternity clothing shops or baby specialty stores?

Have business cards put up in the ultrasound waiting room at the hospital.
Find out what day the antenatal appointments are run on at your local doctors and go to the waiting room on that day so you can introduce yourself to the potential clients.
Put info/ads in the local newspapers.
Advertise in shop windows.
Make an appointment with the OB to have a chat about your services so that (s)he can pass your details onto patients :)
