Just hook up the cassette player to the input on your sound card. Rip the tracks to your pc. They will be converted automatically, Try using the program Freerip Provided below

You can do this, although when you do, your recording will not be considered digital, just analog. You need a cassette player that has an output which can go into your computer's input. The computer input would be on your computer's audio/video card, you may have an input on the front. This may be termed "Line In" or "Microphone In".

You will also need some software. You can probably search for some free software, but ones I have used I paid for. The ones I have used were Musicmatch and Soundblaster. Both have options to be able to record a line in. Simply follow the instructions on those and you can create files - either MP3, CDA, etc. Musicmatch software has a free download, but you must purchase the version which allows the ability to record line in. Good news about that is once you purchase, you have lifetime updates of the software.
