Why does everyone assume that once you get a visable tattoo you will never get hired. I have a great government job and I have tattoos and my hubby can go anywhere and get a job. (Trust me he's done it) And he has a visable tattoo on his wrist. You can get great jobs with tattoos or not. So why do people without tattoo assume you can't? How do you people think we get money and afford our tattoos?

I live in Alabama, you know part of the bible belt. One of the most uptight states.
Most employers nowadays will over look your tattoo if you have the skills, and knowledge.

B/C PEOPLE are IGNORANT. and stereotype us tattooed people and think we are either WHITE TRASH,GANGBANGERS OR FELONS.
I also am sleeved and i have had no problem getting a honest legit job.
People are lame, and they can think what they want....I can assure you 10 years from now, tattoos wont even be stereotyped since its such a common and accepted thing nowadays

Because some people are more inclined to jump the gun and judge people for their art. It's not up to those people to tell us that we can't have a job if we have tattoos, it's up to the employers that decide to hire us. There are many people that have tattoos have very nice jobs. The people that say you can't ever get a job if you have tattoos just need to go to a different forum, get a life and leave people alone that have tattoos and people that enjoy the art!
Happy tattooing and happy new year!

I think people just associate tat's with trashy people. I also have 5 tats and make over $25 a hour at my job. My hubby has tat's and makes good money too. It is just closed minded peeps trying to be rude, who tell u that. Don't feel bad I get this speach from my folks constantly. If you have visable tat's and make good money, good for you. We will show them, they are all wrong.
Happy new year.

Silly as it sounds because non tat people seem to belive that tats mean untrustworthy and dangerous. I had one removed from my hand because all the comments I recived at work. I think it carries more shock value depending on where they are visible. hands seem to say you lack wisdom and you are trying to be tough. I think alot also has to do with the quality of the work. Lets be honest I have tats and when I see a carppy on on somebodys wrist or web on the hand I make a judgement about them. Usally Iit goes along the lines of "Bet they regret that sloppy work they must not have much pride." But again this is just my guess.

I think people are to concerned about trying to manipulate others, some don't even realize they do it they just repeat what they hear and are convinced themselves so think it is there duty to convince others. I'm in the military and think I work with the most tattooed people in the US, and the regulations have changed so they don't even need to be able to hide them all in a uniform anymore. They wont have problems finding a job because they have tattoos.

Being in Alabama myself I can say that is true here but in Florida at least orlando it isnt true If you have visible tattoos most places wont hire you. I think we are just more laid back here than other areas.

i agree. there probably are SOME jobs that frown on tatttoos. i actually had a job in a very laid back setting that would make you cover your tattoo. but i now work in a catholic hospital and you don't have to cover your tattoos, unless they are offensive.
i haven't ventured into visible tattoos yet but i don't worry about job prospects because of them.

It depends where you are. If you're in NYC, Toronto, Sydney or LA, tattoos are ok.
In New Jerusalem, Texass, they can get you out of the job market permanently.
