i am engaged and my fiance and i have set the date for our wedding.

However, it falls on a Sunday and our chosen time is 12 noon.

Do catholic churches permit weddings on Sundays?

My parish church also has mass services at 11am - an hour before our wedding; how do i resolve this issue

Thank you

Yes, Sunday weddings are absolutely allowed in Catholic churches--in fact it's very traditional. In every Catholic wedding I've ever attended, mass comes first followed by the wedding ceremony. It takes a while, LOL!

You should talk to your parish priest about the particulars. He will have done this hundreds of times and can advise you on how to proceed. One personal question to consider--is your fiance Catholic? Your church may not be willing to perform the service if he isn't.

PS: After reading the answers already given, I guess the Archdiocese around here must have a different position on Sunday weddings that isn't as common as I thought. In any case, absolutely talk to your parish priest.

My church (which is Catholic) doesn't perform weddings on Sundays. You need to call the church and find out for sure, you have to talk to a priest anyway. You may have to change the time and/or the date.

I spoke to my priest before I made any kind of plans regarding time, etc.

No usually churches dont allow weddings on Sundays. It's usually Saturday's. Plus having a church service one hour before the wedding would be deffinitly isnt going to work out. I suggest having your weedding the day before.

You just have to talk to your parish priest. You should not have set a date or a time without consulting with the person who will be performing the ceremony!!! That wasn't smart. Usually, that is done first, because without the ceremony, you don't have a wedding.
My mom and dad got married on a Sunday, after the Mass.

Instead of asking us, you should be asking the priest who will be officiating at your wedding. I don't know if a Sunday wedding is a violation of Church law, but a priest certainly would know that. And he will also know the rules of that particular parish, and whether such a wedding would be permissible.

most churches don't allow Sunday weddings - and churches always put their own services first, so if there is already a service at that time you will need to change your time

I've heard conflicting views on this but I believe (and I am a catholic) that you cannot. I know you can't have funerals on a sunday and I think the same goes for weddings for more tips check out this link...
