Why is it that when you have a sore throat there is excess saliva in the mouth?

I have a sore troath and it's really annoying... I couldn't sleep at all last night cause it made feel like I wanna throw up. What is the reason for excess saliva?

becauase your throat is sore, you don't swallow the normal amount of saliva, allowing the excess (you swaqllow less)
