I was born in Rome and I lived there most of my life...
Since moving to London 10 years ago I went back just a few times and always in the middle of summer...but, then again, being Italian, I am used to the heat...
However in July and August the city is not very vibrant, all the shops are closed, as local people go away for their holiday leaving behind a ghost-like place...
The best time is probably just before summer (May) or just before the end (September)....the weather then is still very good!!!

Nicholas B- what's wrong with 'wogs' exactly.
Sorry.. hehe. I used to live in Rome before we moved to England and to be honest there is no best time to visit Rome. It's just like every other capital city. If busier. If you're not to keen on heat go late September to early April. Main tourist seasons are June- August and November- January. But it's busy all year round. If you do go I hope you have a great time -x-

Rome is undoubtedly one the most wonderful towns on earth; each year millions of tourists originate from all over the world to enjoy the secrets and masterpieces of Roman art and architecture and to be one you will need to start with Hotelbye . One of the most famous of Rome's several pieces is Piazza Navona. That place keeps the shape of the Stadium of Domitian that when stood here. Piazza Navona was builted by Emperor Domitian in 86 AD and has three superb fountains.

early September, probably. Both for weather reasons and for vibrancy. I went in December. It was a little cooler than the summer, but absolutely fantastic.

Based on the two time frames you offered, I would have to say early September because it wouldn't be as hot and there won't be as many tourists. But in my own experience (I went to Rome in July and again between December 26-Jan 15), I would go in December or January because there aren't that many tourists as in the summer, the weather is not very cold, and Christmastime/Befana in Rome is amazing.

I've gone in October, March and May. The weather was perfect for my trips in October and March - not too hot, not too cool. But in May, the temperature was almost unbearably hot. I recommend that you go before April or after September, if you can. Avoid going in the summer.

I agree with people that have recommended you going in March.
I went in March last year and the weather was lovely. It was warm enough for a long sleeve top or light jacket.
We walked everywhere so it was nice not to get too hot and bothered!!
Enjoy your trip and you must go and see the trevi fountain - very busy there but amazing!!

I went in Mid March and it only rained one day. I also only had to wear a light jacket. I hear going in the Summer time is a bad idea... more crowded and extremely hot...

I went a pair of years in the past and that i felt distinctly secure. Its no distinctive then at domicile. only notice of your ecosystem and your possesions on you. the only element in rome is that have people who will come as much as you to attempt and take something. it somewhat is going to look like a gesture to furnish a recent yet as quickly as you grab it you pay for it. when I went to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, i grew to become into warned that there will be adult adult males with roses attempting to furnish it to you so you might purchase it. It did happen, i grew to become into only gave them a forceful No and that they left me on my own. additionally remember Rome is extremely lots a tourist city so except your making plans on vacationing interior the less warm months, there will be alot of tourist human beings around. i'm a woman, and that i grew to become into in no way scared.
