i tihnk it must be getting over all the wonderfulness (made up a word) of Christmas and New Year.
Mke it happening and happy somehow, organise an events when all your firneds come round or your close friends or family. i guess it has the scope to be a fantastic month if people can try to get over the horriblness of having to wait a year until another Christmas!
hope you find a way of making it one of the best months ever!
Happy Rest Of The New Year!

Before January, you have school starting, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. After January, you have Valentines Day, St.Patricks Day, Easter, Mother's Day, and school ending. January is just kind of stuck in the middle with nothing happening except the credit card bills you racked up from the holidays. If you think about it, every month has something going on except January.

Well January where i live isn't very depressing, here in Ohio its very nice out. It was baseball playing weather outside. Sun shining, nice blue sky. I'm surprised we haven't gotten any snow yet and it hasn't gotten really cold yet either...i'm not complaining about this weather....but i know the cold is gonna come.
But its probably depressing for everyone because it gets dark so early and by 4-5pm we want to go to wind down and not do anything.

For me it's the coming out of the holidays and being winter. People are tired from the holidays and often sick. Also most people take down thier holiday decor which makes your house darker (no holiday lights are on) then it was. The days are short and the natural light is even shorter. Ther aren't any major holidays either, so theres really nothing to look forward too.

I'm sorry, but January is not a depressing month for me. It is probably one of my best months.
My worst months are November and December - opposite to everything that all of you have said above about the Holidays and Thanksgiving, and all that.
Don't get me wrong I'm no Scrooge or anything - I just get sick and get terrible migraine headaches throughout this time of year - hate it.
So I'm flying high. January is great; year looks bright, full of hope and prosperity.

well there's no holidays for a start, after the christmas ones end that is, and the weather is awful, it's always dark, grey and cold, so people stay indoors. there's not much to do indoors so people get bored, and in turn unhappy and depressed. so basically it's the weather that's at fault.

My family have always said "if I can make it through March I'll be here next year.
The trouble with January is that all of the parties are over.
