Skeet, trap and sporting clays are a lot of challenging fun and you get to meet some handsome, outdoorsey, upwardly mobile and professional men in the process. Golf has been taken over by the dirtbags that hang out at Hooter's...but shooting sports are still the refuge of the real gentlemen, IMHO.
Also, have you tried Metallic Silhouette shooting? I'm sure one of the clubs in your area has this....call and ask. Even the "Master" at this game only shoot 85-90% with most local events more like 50 to 60%. It's challenging but not too hard or too expensive to get into. When I go out occasionally, all the guys are eager to help my shooting form!

You might enjoy NRA high power rifle long-range target shooting.
Information is avalible from the NRA.
Sure they are stationary targets, but they are wwwaaaaayy out there. You shoot prone or from a rest so recoil is not much of an issue.
Skeet and trap are always challenging, but there is a distinct difference in my opinion between rifle/pistol shooting and shotguns. Close counts in shotguns, while rifle/pistol shooting must be much more percise.
Another shooting field that is rapidly gaining in popularity is
"Cowboy Action shooting", Where participents dress in old-West style clothing and use vintage and reproduction guns to engage in fast-paced situational speed and accuracy shooting matches.
The Shooting Sports Foundation should be able to direct you to the nearst Cowboy Action Shooting organization.
Shooting is a fun rewarding hobby. I'm glad you enjoy it.

St. Ruger, I think I'd have a hard time concentrating on my targets if you were shooting next to me too!
I was going to suggest silhouette.....it's easy to be competitive but very, very hard to master. It started in Mexico 50 years ago and is one of the fastest growing and most popular shooting sports, so chances are a local club has it. If not, you can start up yourself!
You can get into this with a few friends and some metal silhouettes cut to the shape of animals. Since you shoot at several distances in one course of fire, you need to practice scope adjustment and really reading the wind conditions. Also, matches get very exciting.....it's hard as heck to hit five targets in a row with the whole match watching you. Also, they are very helpful and supportive of newbies who ask questions. You don't have to look like St. Ruger to have folks offer to show you the ropes!

learn to hunt, birds, deer, any game animal, then take your game to the processor and have them process it to be given to charity. you get the hunt, and needy people get the food.
