Hi Katie,
I have been a Hairdresser for about 10 years and own my own little salon. In my experience choosing the right shampoo and conditioner for you can be as confusing as learning to read Japanese! Here are a few guidlines, as washing your hair is like washing your skin, what works for you may not work for everyone else, hense you have so many suggestions.
A good shampoo will lather really well, no matter what kind of water you use it with, ie hard or soft. When you have shampooed your hair it should squeek when you pull it through your fingers, like when you run your fingers over a squeeky clean plate.
The conditioner should make your hair feel soft from the minuite you put it on, it should feel creamy and not too synthetic, certain ones that have been mentioned contain silicone, and this will artificially condition your hair but underneath it won't do it any favours.
Finally, if your hair feels particularly dry, leave the conditioner on for a few minuites, although most people know this already. Try not to wash your hair too much as this encourages it to get get greasey, and no matter how much washing you do, your hair will continue to be limp and dry. Many of the suggestions you have been given are good ones, and you don't have to overspend to get a good product. A few of my favourites in the salon and at home are Wella Lifetex, TIGI Bedhead Manipulator, Treseme, and Elvive. But like I said, its like your skin, it may not suit everyone, it really really is trial and error! Hope this is a help.
Jill.

Shiney and soft? Have i got a treat for you!

In the past I've suffered from hair problems. I'm a manic hair straightening person and as you'd guess my hair is damaged, losing its shine and no where near soft! I couldn't find anything that helped until I came across a brand, that I've always just walked past....

Try Aussie's Miracle Moist. It contains macadamia nut oil, smells gorgeous and works wonders! Now i always have shiney and soft hair, it never looks damaged and it smells fab! They also have this philosophy that you dont need a lot if the stuff works which is SO true, therefore you're effectively getting more for your money!
Now everyone comments on how shiney my hair is, and how it always smells good. Oh and you know what? Now that its less damaged and the ends are well kept- it saves all the hair salon appointments i have to make which cost me a fortune!!

hope that helps!

I've use Suave since Jr. High. My hair has always been healthy, shiny, and soft. No matter what damage I've done to it (bleach, dye, perm, etc.) Suave always healed my hair. I use the shampoo and conditioner. It's cheep (usually under a dollar at wal-mart)and works great.
I tried expensive stuff from the salon when I was in High school (and my parents paid for it) it didn't work as well.

I love the Pantene line. It works just as well, if not better, than a salon brand. I also like V-05 Hot Oil treatments for my hair. ShineHappy works well, it may weigh your hair down for a day or so but then it looks better. To start having shiny hair though, you may need to get a trim to get rid of any dead ends. Shiny hair also depends on your diet. Eat plenty of protein to make hair shiny. Speaking of food, you can also put mayo on your hair for a few minutes and then wash it out for some extra moisture. The mayo gets smelly and I don't like using mayo on my hair even though it works. Be sure to blow dry hair down the hair shaft to seal the cuticle. You may try a sleeking gel to keep fly aways down and add some shine. For the most part:Protein, Pantene, and Proper Care. Good Luck and Happy 2007!

Hi, i use tresemme the one for corse damaged hair. Its good because it strengthens brilttle hair and also protects form heat damage and as i dry and straigten my hair i need this. I use to use pantene smooth and sleek but it irritates my scalp, So i use tresemme ive only used it as few times as ive only just bought it but i can see the difference already. I tried the dry damaged and coloured hair in tresemme but it didnt do a thing for my hair its the one with the red label writhing. So now i got the the one for brittle hair in the purplr writing and its very good. Just leave the condtioner on for 3mins and its works a treat and leave hair really shiny also.
Also you could try pantene ice shine its brilliant and leave hair almost light reflecting i stoped using it because it made my hair too shiny, but if that what you want go for it.

Aussie minute miracle is really good for soft hair.

Any Mark Hill or Charles Worthington product designed to add shine also work. It will always say it on the bottle. Go to your nearest boots and you can spend hours looking and choosing all of the wonderful hair products.

If you want to spend a little xtra money
Paul Mitchell
Bed Head
Biolage

If you go to a Beauty supply you can usually find these in sets for about 20 bucks.... if you buy them separately they run around 12.00-15.00 per bottle. So it's better to buy them as a set.

These work WONDERS. I have bleached hair and this stuff makes my hair so soft and shiny and healthy.

For more generic ( and not as expensive)

Garnier Fructis
Dove
Tresemme

I use Boots Provitamin Shampoo and Conditioner, they have a good range for all hair types and are reasonably priced. My hair always feels soft and is in very good condition.

I use Andrew Collinge Complete Moisture shampoo and One Minute Wonder conditioner. I've always had reasonable hair but it was never really silky but this stuff is fantastic!

Andrew Collinge does a range for long hair, I find the leave-in conditioner fab. It is a little more than your run-of-the-mill conditioner, but a little goes a long way. Mine lasted about 3 months.
