The factors leading to war are often complicated and due to a range of issues. Where disputes arise over issues such as sovereignty, territory, resources, religion, or ideology and a peaceable resolution is not sought, fails, or is thwarted, then war often results.

To the victor goes the spoils.

I don't think anyone would argue that any war is a good thing, but all too frequently the alternatives are far worse. Consider an American continent with the Rising Sun flag west of the Mississippi, and the swastika flying over the east. Consider all of Asia and Europe under the Hammer and Sickle. Consider nuclear and chemical weapons in the hands of those who would like to see Western civilization destroyed for not accepting the Koran. Freedom is not always the trophy of winning a war -- ask the Poles after German victory, or the Chinese after Mao's victory. But it absolutely is ours.

wars are over money and power.

Those that have some want more and to acquire it they take their dummy soldiers to war against other nations they believe they can conquer.

The trophy are the spoils of war, often time the annexation of the territories the other nation had. For instance that's how the US took the entire state of Florida from Spain.

We have wars because humans are by nature violent and conflictive. Until the world shares a truly common viewpoint (never) conflicts will occur, and thus wars. And the trophy- you get to clean everything up (damage, country, unexploded weapons). Yes, I know its stupid, but if you can get the middle east to stop fighting, you let me know.

The trophy is that I continue to get a paycheck for putting my beliefs where most people put their mouth. Simply put, it is my job to deploy. There is no glamour, no trophy's, nothing except the satisfaction of living to see another day, and enjoying the job that I perform.

War is like robbery. The winners will take valuables from the losers, and after it is all over, the winners are the hero's, and the losers are the war-criminals.
