I have broken one of my favorite DVD's and have to buy a new one. Is there any way to copy the DVD so that I have a backup? Is this legal?

There is copy software out there. It is supposed to be legal to copy for archival purposes.

Heres a link for one of the better rated copy programs.

It is a very gray area as to whether this is legal or not. To copy dvd movies without having a copy of the original IS considered illegal due to copyrights. However people try to sidestep this by claiming they are making "backups" of currently owned dvd's. Whether or not this is legal is the grey area....There are utilities that allow you to do this successfully. I have heard this utility is very useful in "backing up" your discs. http://www.ripit4me.org/

Yes, you certainly can. You can dowload software like DVD shrink, to decript it and remove copywrite protection. You are allowed to copy DVD's for your own use, not to sell (incase your original get scratched).

No, it is copyrighted, and most software will not copy it anyway.
