nothing. the problem comes when the different people of the world and their beliefs collide because people can't just get over themselves enough to A) attempt to understand another's point of view, and B) leave well enough alone if they don't agree. They'd rather fight to the death than open their minds.
I am a Christian and I could care less if you choose not to believe. I don't condemn you nor do I believe you'll die some awful horrible death because you are not a believer in what i believe in. I do what is best for me and that is believing in a power higher than myself and any human.
There are extremists from all walks of life and religious backgrounds, including those non-believers called Atheists. Some Atheists are not any better than the Christians they are trying to denounce as ridiculous people because they believe, so until there is complete tolerance of all the human differences the world will continue to be a mess.

The very existence of atheists corrodes the faith of true believers. If one sane, well-adjusted atheist goes through life without any serious signs of moral decay, the power in the promise of eternal reward or punishment is diminished. People who treat others decently, without reference to scriptural authority, have to be cheating somehow. It's like a perpetual motion machine or antigravity. It can't possibly exist. There must be some sort of diabolical trick.

Many are taught at an early age that those who do not belong to the same cult they do are inferior in some way. One only has to sit through a typical church service to hear the ravings against non-believers. Many times they equate being Christian with being good, thereby implying non-christians are somehow evil. After years of being brainwashed over and over again, many hate non-christians without even thinking about it.

nothing, that is your choice.
People in general like to tell others the "best" way to live. Whether it is for control, or insecurity, or even unsolicited advice.
It is no different then the belief that a "woman isn't complete without a man", or that gay people are that way, because they have been hurt by the opposite sex so they should "get back on that horse" and find happiness.
If you are happy with your life, screw everybody else.

There's nothing wrong with being an atheist, but look at it from this point of view. What if you're wrong? Won't it be better to believe in a God that does not exist than not to believe in a God that does exist? In other words, hedge your bets.

People believe atheists have something missing because these people have found what they consider to be more within the arms of a religion. It is not necessarily that atheists have something missing, but rather that people perceive (honestly) that an atheist has something missing. It is all in perception.

Because, little billy, people can be close-minded. People don't understand that others have the ability to think for themselves. I know, it's a tough fact for Christians to grasp... But some have learned to TOLERATE Atheists, while others... well, Fred Phelps.

There is nothing wrong with it. Religious people are threatened by it because it shows that people can survive and are good, happy people without being forced to believe in a fairy tale.

There is nothing wrong with it. Just like there is nothing wrong with being black or gay. "Believers" are running out of people to discriminate against legally though so, I think you understand why.
Of course atheism is only considered wrong in parts of the US and the Middle East. The rest of the world is pretty sane on that matter.
