James tells us clearly that there are sins which lead to death (mortal sins), and sins which do not lead to death. But he doesn't name any particular sins as deadly. This is because mortal sin depends not only on the objective seriousness of the act, but also on certain subjective criteria.

The Church founded by Christ for all mankind, the Church with a divine guarantee of correct and truthful teaching, teaches that three criteria must be met before an act committed by someone qualifies as deadly (mortal) sin ...

(1) The act must be an objectively grave evil. (The sinner doesn't just think it is grave, it actually is.)
(1) The person committing the act must be aware of the gravely serious nature of the act.
(3) The person must give his/her full rational consent (no-one is forcing them to do it, their judgement is not seriously impaired, etc.)

Boith mortal and non-mortal (venial) sins can be committed against every one of God's Commandments. It is plainly absurd to think that God deals with someone who steals a pen from the office the same way He deals with a serial rapist.
