Promise Rings are for High School students who think they know what love is. If you are out of High School and thinking about a Promise Ring, you need to grow up and either talk about getting married (leading to an Engagement Ring), or give up the pointless relationship.

There is nothing wrong with a promise ring. My fiance bought me one before he bought me the actual engagement ring. (Yes, we were both adults at the time ... it's not just for high school students) It's a nice way for the guy to let you know his feelings and his intentions of marriage before he buys the engagement ring. A lot of times, guys buy a promise ring to save money for the engagement ring or under various circumstances. Most couples do not use a promise ring because they feel if they are going to give a promise ring, they should just buy the engagement ring. It was more common to use a promise ring years ago, but today they are hardly used. A promise ring is considered a smaller version of an engagement ring and a precursor to an engagement ring. I think that it is something that you and your boyfriend should decide together. If it is something you both want, then do it ... if not, then don't. Don't worry about what others say. It's all about your relationship and what works best for the two of you. I hope this helps.

Promise Ring?

Try a search on here for "promise ring" - there's a lot of information. Basically it's if the couple is too young or just not ready to get married (yes, some adults use them too, despite what other people have said here). It's generally a pre-engagement ring and represents a desire to get married "someday", but it's meaning is only truly determined by the giver and the wearer.

A waste of your money. In most cases they are for promise at an age where your not able to keep any such promise.Too young to know what your future holds and too naive to believe it.
Wait a while and just have fun and enjoy their company. If your still with them after 3 or 4 years then think about the real thing.

I heard this somewhere... "A promise ring means I'll take you to the bedroom, but not to the church."

I personally just think promise rings were devised by jewelers to get young men to spend oodles of money on their girls when they don't want to get married yet.

But I also know people who love them!

I got a "promise necklace" because he wanted to design my ring. Well he cheated and I gave the diamond necklace to his mother who was paying all his bills anyways! Young and stupid..........

another money-making scheme invented by jewelry companies.. you should watch the movie Blood Diamond.. it'll make you think twice about buying jewelry.. unless you have no conscious..
