My cat is 16 and healthy (according to the Vet and recent blood results). However, she has soft stool that often doesn't make it to the litter box. Because she is long haired and doesn't really groom herself much anymore, fecal remnants generally stay with her so that when she sits on anything she leaves a stain of poop! It's really disgusting and just recently started. I have changed her food per the Vets advice and give her a high fiber dry food from Science Diet for Senior cats. I also give her lexatrone for hairball prevention becasue she used to throw up a lot. Anyone know what may be the cause/cure for this? I am desperate to find an answer.
She stills eats, sleeps, and drinks normally. She meows and is mobile as always. As age catches up to her she looses more and more weight dropping from about 14lbs. to barely 7lbs. No thyroid disorder as of yet...it was tested and came out normal. She is very boney and doesn't clean her stool completely. Please HELP!

As for the loose stools, continue with your vet checking blood and fecal samples, or whatever your vet recommends.

I also have an older kitty with long fur. I use an electric clipper monthly and trim the hair around her back side short. That way feces is less likely to collect there and get tracked out of the litter box.

I usually put a 1 guard on the clipper so I won't cause any razor burn back there. I then clip to the left and right of her anus, down the back of her hind legs a bit and above her bum about an inch up the tail.

You can try giving your cat a pet psyllium fiber supplement such as Vetasyl. If stools are still soft, ask your vet to check your cat for intestinal parasites and other health problems.

Was kitty checked for colitis? It might not hurt to have her checked for intestinal parasites also.

I'm sure the blood work was comprehensive enough to test for diabeties, but ask the doctor just in case it wasn't.

may just be because she's older is all you can clean her tush with a butt wipe. My one cat had problems with keeping her tush clean and I would clean her on a regular basis, you may also want to trim the hair in the area so the poop doesn't get clumped up in the hair.

Have or did you test it see if she is dibetic? How are her Kidney and Liver functions? Have they taken any x-rays or done a Ultra sound?
