I had a Belgium that did this. I read up and found that they do need to pee, but without socialization will do what ever they can to eliminate. I helped him by taking him to a tree outside and (yeah sorry to say) lifting his leg ONLY WHEN I knew his bladder was full. He peed I praised, it took a while but he got the hang of it . Now when we go to a park with other dogs he does not feel like an outsider. Am really glad I don't have the pee smell around my house. Your husky will be fine you just need to socialize him a bit. k, Good Luck.

I've had 4 males - still have 3. One is a choc lab, 2 are half lab-half golden retriever (beautiful & brilliant dogs), and a Brazilian Mastiff. I had them all neutered by 4 months old, only 1 lifted his leg and that was only if he were out of his territory. i think it's great! they have never peed on a car tire, tree, hydrant, etc or never pee all over the place while out of their territory. And I've noticed that with neutering before they are 6 months they don't get that male macho attitude, they are friendly to other dogs, and they don't stick their noses where they don't belong - the crouch!

My male Lab does not lift his leg maily because he was neutered at 6 months so he does not have that urge to mark his territory. You puppy is still really young give him time and he will do it. My other male was neutered at 2 years and he does lift his leg. He developed the the habit to mark his territory with age and never lost it even after being fixed.

Lucky you! You mean that you don't have Husky pee running down the side of your BBQ, patio posts, corner of the house, tires on the cars, barn door and you name it?
My vet told me that if I neutered my males before they learned to hike their leg that they would never learn to do it. She was wrong! Both of my males were neutered at 2 months.
Now their middle name is hike.
You are probably worrying about a problem that you aren't going to get to enjoy much longer.
Signed, pee mopper.

I am glad to hear this!!
Males who lift their legs are dominant and are trying to mark their territory!
I train all my dogs and my clients to not lift their leg. Males can squat their whole lives just as females do.
It is a nuisance behavior and can be taught out of a dog.
I cannot stand males who run around the dog park lifting their damn leg on every tree, post, pole, human, rock, and bush in sight!!
Let your dog lift his leg. It is totally natural and a great trait to have!!

It is normal for him too squat and pee, the only time he will lift his leg is when he is next to a tree peeing.so it is normal for him not to lift his leg.

Some males never learn to lift their legs, particularly if they were netured by 6 months of age.

My Pitt Bull does not lift his leg. He only did it once. He is more comfortable without lifting. I never really thought it mattered. it may just be laziness.
