Our Congress and our President are not going to do anything! They are more concerned about maintaining their power base and skimming $ from the system. The fact that we will loose America is not important to them.

Sure hope the address this issue and soon! These people need to be accounted for and become part of our society, we can't have 12 million people running around without anybody knowing whom they are or what they are doing. Also once integrated into the society we will be able to reap the benefits of a stronger more vibrant community. That should also put an end to the uncontrolled immigration issue.
I have a feeling that if a party votes against this and they do in time become citizens that party will stay out of office for a very long time. It would be in everybody's best interest to fix this soon and do it right.

That's a very good question. I honestly think the government (that is backed by big corporate money) will drag it's feet. Many illegal aliens that live in the US now believe amnesty is just around the corner because Democrats are moving into office. Not true at all. They are just as involved in the slave trade as the Republicans. If amnesty is given, employers would be forced to pay at least minimum wage, and everything would go on the books. Illegals would have to pay for social services and health care. The corporations would no longer be able to put the burden of care for their workforce on American taxpayers. It's big money that got them here, it will be big money that suppresses them. Greed is a very powerful motivator. Political corruption is as deep as corporate pockets, and that is very deep indeed.

In my opinion, probably not in the prevention of illegal immigration. I've lost faith in politicians at this point in both parties inacting laws that will p*ss some people off. It's all about the votes and keepin their job. My prediction is that amnesty will be awarded and nothing will change on the borders. Hope I'm totally wrong!!!

Not a snowballs chance in hell ! The Reason: 50.1% of Americans voted for the democrats, illegal aliens and minorities make up their voting base. Why would they want to stem the flow of voters into the US? Hello people, the Democrats Exploit Minorities!
When are people going to wake up, now with the Liberals in control of congress people will be able to marry their pets! Laugh now, but its going to happen. The ACLU will claim that its in the constitution.

Whatever laws may be enacted in 2007 will, in practice, change the status quo very little or not at all.

Congress will re-enter office this month. They should have some type of new laws ready by May, hopefully, in effect by July. We are looking at a work program for those who do not have “roots” here in the U.S. and also a path to citizenship for those who have been here for 5 years and working at least 3 years. Remember, those who have received public aid and /or criminal backgrounds will not qualify under the new laws that are set to enter this year.
Requirements (5 years)
Residence for 5 years (before April 5 2006)
Worked at least 3 of those years and work 6 more years after obtaining your legal status
Pass a criminal background check
Pay past taxes (you will not qualify for refund)
Deportation laws and 3-10 year bar will be waived
Register with selective services
Learn civics and English (Citizenship) requirements to receive your adjustment of status
Pay a fine of $2000.00 for each adult and $750.00 fine for the state fine (spouse and children pay $100.00)
Requirements (3 years)
Present in the U.S. before January 7 2004
Working in the U.S. before January 7 2004
Pass criminal background check
Pay fine of $1000.00 and State fine of $750.00
These are the new Immigration changes under law 208 section 1546 that will be discussed by congress starting this month.
*******remember this may change or be modified when congress re-enters office******

Wouldn't do much good. They enact lots of laws, and enforce the ones they want to. Sad, but true. Just like guarding our borders. It's just not happening

flip a coin, the issue is will it do anything. I hear from people that the pay is better in the US but I was thinking about sneaking in to Mexico. I know I could do it.

I hope so. They need to deal with them, and reform the immigration system as a whole, from top to bottom.
