Interesting match. I'll pick Benitez due to his superior defensive skills, counter punching, and his superior body punching. Yes he is the better body puncher. Watch the Duran fight when Benitez took the jr. mid title from him. His effective defense and body punching won him that fight as it would this dream match up. Wilfred by unanimous decision.

Two great defensive fighters. De La Hoya was a natural Super Feather wt and Benitez was a natural Super light wt. For boxing purists, this is a great bout. Both fighters go back and forth and a 15 rd majority draw is the result.

Toughguy,
I will base my answer on this....both fighters were in their primes at 147 - Welterweight...
Wilfred Benitez was an excellent excellent counter puncher. He seemed to dictate the middle rounds against the great Sugar Ray Leonard. (note Sugar Ray was the only one to stop Benitez in his prime). His primary weakness was dealing with speed.
Oscar possesses great speed, a sneaky lefthook and good power. His lefthand is deceiving because he stand orthodox, but is lefthanded....so that is his naturally stronger hand.
If the fight goes the distance, Benitez is a close decision that would beg a rematch.
If the fight is stopped, De La Hoya by TKO (but don't really see this happening)....I don't think Benitez would have the power to stop De La Hoya.
