just tell him he needs to accept you how you are. But theirs nothing wrong with dressing up for special events either, he seems to want you to look your best, and has your best interests in mind. Is their anything wrong with that?

Now that is a first. Usually it is you girls trying to change us guys. And I mean after the first date. No more chewing or dipping, wanting us to use those funny looking things put on the sides our plates when our hands do just fine. Throwing our luck sweat shirt in the dashing machine before the season is over. Getting rid of our hounds and getting poodles instead.
So I guess turn about is fair play.

If he doesn't want you for who you are hes a waste of time I too mostly have guy friends and don't like the whole "girly" thing its called being confident with yourself, and happy with who you are and not trying to be someone your not you'll find someone that appreciates everything you are and not try and change you those black tye affairs are stuffy an most of the people are fake anyways

wow it sounds like you need to communicate your fears and your misgivings to the guy directly. He might not be aware of the control he trying to exert over you. I hope you don't enjoy letting men make your decisions or tell you what to do, its obvious that you are concsious of all of this, but because of your emotions you might not be able to change the situation. Honesty is the best policy and I think you should be direct with him about all facets of this problem and then you might get the answers you are looking for.

Ask him to be more specific on how he wants you to change. You don't want to get into a relationship where he wants to make you over completely. He's paying for some of your grooming services. Would he change something if you asked him to?Don't end up losing your own identity. Follow your heart as well as your instincts.

This guy has issues and he's looking for a "braclet" to be on his arm. If he can't accept you for who you are or trust your jusdgement on what to wear and how to groom for his black tie affairs, then kiss him goodbye.

Sounds like a potentially abusive/controlling relationship. If it makes you uncomfortable...LISTEN TO YOURSELF!!!
