Most digital cameras will allow you to shoot an image in B&W. As long as the camera is white balanced, then you should get a great B&W image out of it. However, I'd suggest shooting in color then using an image program to convert it to B&W. This way you have more control and can produce various B&W effects such as Infrared, Red Based, etc.

Yes - many digital cameras have a black and white shooting mode. However, it's probably better to shoot in colour, and then desaturate (remove the colour from) the photograph in an image program.

Like they said, I would shoot in color and convert it to B&W in photoshop because that gives you more options. I have not noticed a difference in quality vice versa but camera's are as different as people. Chances are a low mp camera will not like low lighting (low contrast) and you will have to compensate for that by making adjustments to the default settings depending on the situation, by increasing the exposure value to make the image brighter or by some variation or combination of EV and white balance.

Yes but the contrast isnt too good. You could shoot it in black and white and then go into photoshop and up the contrast.
