I am considering the Panasonic VDR-D300. I intend to make little movies with the camcorder, which means editing. I just want to know what my other options are. So hit me with all you've got!

If you want to edit, a DVD cam is out of the question. Get a minidv cam, a g300 is pretty good, gs400 is even better (but you can only find these on ebay now) it offers prosumer level manual functions. You could also get a gs500, but it is really not that good compared to a gs400, and has less features. If you have around $1500, you could go for a canon GL2 (off of ebay), or you could get a gs400 with a mic, software (and computer possibly as well), lights, and filters and lenses. BTW, all the models above are panasonic, except for the GL2. Id say the gl2 has better glass, size (if you want a pro look), manual functions, and a lanc terminal, optical zoom, and CCDs but the gs400 is smaller (if you want to be more discreet), and has native 16:9 chips and is a lot cheaper. Hope this helps!
