Is this the one people are referring to on here today?

If so, the parents are responsible for NOT watching their toddler and allowing her to cross the street in the first place.

And the owner is responsible for NOT having his dog properly sercured and supervised.

What do you all think?

I highly agree that if this was a lab or some other breed, it would not have been made such a big deal out of.

I'm just sad that the responsible owners, such as myself, will have to suffer because of irresponsibility that leads to incidents such as this.

Keep the opinions coming...I really like to read your views on this!

Okay, If I read the story right and heard the video correctly, the 3 year old ran across the street unsupervised into the DOGS yard (that was tied up) and goes to pet the dog (a strange dog) without an adult and they wonder why she got attacked? They don't say the whole story, weather or not the dog was ALWAYS chained (which will cause aggression) or if it was just out for the moment. I don't agree with leaving dogs outside unsupervised, even to use the bathroom, more for my dogs safety than others safety, but it blows my mind that this little girl was outside running around apparently with NO adults and was able to run across the street (which is dangerous in itself) and pet a strange dog on its own property. Sorry but With that information, I'm putting the parents completely at fault. And previous people are right, this story wouldnt even be in the news if it were a different breed of dog, the media is just wanting to brainwash more ignorant people by saying pit bulls are "bad" It makes me sick.

I agree. Why aren't children taught the basic rules of how to act around dogs? I mean, one, don't EVER go up to a dog you don't know. If the owner is around, ask before you try touching any dog. This would stop about 24% of all attacks! Next, if a dog starts coming towards you. STOP! DON"T RUN! Yell in a deep voice, "NO!" By not running away or screaming, the dog would be less likely to come after them. If they told the dog a command that it recognised, the animal will usually either comply or back away. And finally, NEVER, EVER, swing a stick at a dog!!!! This will scare the dog and then it will attack! Also, don't ever pepper spray a dog, most of them aren't affected by pepper spray.

This article shows several levels of stupidity. First, where were the parents or adults that should have been supervising these kids? Second, why was this dog not contained? Three, what were the owners thinking of trying to shoot it when there were kids around. (That one was my favorite. Now those kids that were playing will think it is OK to shoot an animal that does something they don't like!) Finally, why spray it with pepper spray. I know for a fact that Pitts don't care if they are sprayed. My neighbor has two 10 month old Pitts that get loose regularly. Three times now I have returned them covered in pepper spray, and they are still happy and active, as my eyes are watering! Many times when they are spraying it with pepper spray or swinging something at them, the dog thinks it is being attacked and attacks right back!

When will people learn! Train the owners right, so they can handle their dogs. Train children right, so the know how to behave. Train the dogs right so that they know how to act. And hold those people who fail to do what they should responsible for the actions of their dogs and their kids.

Do you think it would have made the news if it was a Golden Retriever? I don't! The media loves to show a Pitt Bull doing something wrong. Look up the stats on dog attacks, you will see that the ratio of attacks is much higher for other breeds, like Labs, Goldens, Shepards, and such. Pitt's are being singled out due to the bad public light put on them. Again, there are NO bad breeds...only bad OWNERS.

I hate irresponsible parents and dog owners. I consider myself to be the parent of my two dogs, one which happens to be a Pit Bull, and I am totally 100% responible for their care, well being and safety. Just as parents should be responsible for their kids and "fur kids". I hate the abuse the Pit Bulls take and the way the ignorant people treat them. There are so many other breeds that are by nature aggressive and no one pays attention. I had an Akita that I adopted. Akitas by nature are tempermental and this one was not raised right at all. He hated people and EVERYONE wanted to hug this dog. Why because he looked cute but if I would have let them he without a doubt would have taken their faces off. He did snap oneday and had to be destroyed, but to this day it drives me crazy how everyone wanted to hug this dog and hate our pit bull who loves everyone. Our Pit would never hurt a soul yet everyone unfairly judges him based on ignorance and predjuices. Ignorant biased people really drive me crazy and I really wish people would stop being so closed minded and wake up a see the real picture.

How do you think the parents are feeling right now?
Is it the childs fault?
This is what we are talking about - The child was attacked not the parents. The dog was the one that attacked. This can only be blamed on the dog and it's owners. No one else.
Pit bull are on the most dangerous dog list in England and America as number one for killing humans. If you own a pit bull you should take more responsibility for it. Simple!

Pit Bulls are banned by county here in Florida. If anyone understands the history of how these dogs were created and bred, they would understand that mother nature would never have allowed this to happen on their own.

I know someone who used to breed them, and had to muzzle the dogs WHILE breeding because they wanted to attack while doing the act. His years of breeding them and being their advocate were reversed when his 12 year old female, who never hurt a person, mauled his 2 month old granddaughter, who did NOT make it.

You guys defend these dogs all you want, but they are very dangerous and can turn on you. I love animals, but after hearing the above and having a young cousin attacks and getting stitches on my arm to save her, I think they should be banned. Knowing that this breed's temperment, I mostly blame the owners. BTW, we were playing frisbee on the street, and regardless of the parents and numerous adults, this did not stop the dog.

It's a shame that these days kids can't play on the street in neighborhoods anymore either. And it's even more of a shame that anyone would blame the parents of the toddler. I blame animal advocates for defending these animals who have a rich history of attacks. There is a huge reason down here why insurers do not give people home insurance for this breed.

People always choose to blame anything and anybody for their mistakes or ignorance. The parents didn't watch the kid and the owners didn't watch the dog. But because the kid is just a kid and the dog cant speak up to explain itself it has to be the dogs fault.

I think if the owner of the dogs knows it's dangerous he/she should have properly watched over the dog. The parents are no better.

Sounds like a Pit that had been bred for dog fighting, or had been purposely made mean by his owner. Most Pits would have slobbered her to death licking on her.
