Prognosis is the expected course of a disease or the
patient's chance of recovery.
The prognosis predicts the outcome of a disease and therefore the future for the patient.
The word prognosis comes from the Greek prognostikos (of knowledge beforehand). It combines pro (before) and gnosis (a knowing). Hippocrates used the word prognosis, much as we do today, to mean a foretelling of the course of a disease.
As for Progeria, there currently are no diagnostic tests or treatments for progeria which remains relentlessly progressive and fatal.

Progeria means Pro (in favor of) and Gerontos (meaning old).
Is a very rare condition seen in the first 4-6 months of birth, with the classic look of "old person" in the baby.
Normaly progerics will live in average 11-12 years.
There are some reports of people surviving till the age of 15, however tha prognosis of the disease is pretty gloomy, I am afraid.
The cause ; Accelerated apoptosis or "cell death" a miscoding in the genes that make the cells of a newborn to die before the normal average duration of the rest of the human beings.
