I recognize the fact that some great black fighters from years ago like Sam Langford were never given the opportunity. I'm talking about fighters who had their chance. A few on my list are Young Stribling and Roland La Starza.

ONCE I MADE THIS LIST I NOTICED TWO OBVIOUS POINTS.

WHEN YOU SEE THE FIGHTERS FROM THE '60'S AND '70'S, ALI BEAT ALL OF THEM WHICH NULLIFIES YOUR VIEW OR ANYBODY ELSE'S THAT ROCCO COULD BEAT ALI.

ALSO LOOK AT THE '60'S AND '70'S FIGHTERS, HOW WOULD THEY STAND UP AGAINST TODAY'S CURRENT CHAMPIONS.

You already mentioned Langford, I'll mention Sam McVea however, shared a similar fate with Langford. Bob Pastor was a good ring tactician in his day but lost to Joe Louis. Kirk Johnson is/was (not sure what his future looks like after the ligament tear) an exceptionally skilled "Big Man". He began to get lazy and sloppy both skill wise and his physical appearance as his career progressed. I also liked David Tua more for the sheer KO power he possessed. He's on the road back but who knows with the Heavyweights these days. The division is arguably worse now then it was in the early to mid 80s.

Zora Folley would be one that had to wait years for a shot. By the time he fought Ali he was giving away several years in age. I think Ali was 25 and Foley 33-35. Foley only had one title shot that I am aware of.

am not sure if jimmy young ever won a piece of the title but i remember, esp after he fought ali and foreman, how promising he was as a fighter. i loved dwight braxton(quawi) as a cruiserweight/lt hwy, but don't think he ever made it as a heavyweight, probably too small to compete w/the big boys. more currently, i like toney - he actually fought and won a title but was disqualified for testing positive in the drug test....how's that?
