DayQuil for symptoms, but if you take Zicam the first few days you feel symptoms, you get over it a lot quicker. Decongestants and pain meds dont actually cure the cold, nothing can, its a virus. But Zicam can make it shorter, and the other meds can make it tolerable.

the common cold is caused by a virus....so once you have it....you can only treat the symptoms....all of the otc cold medications work well for the symptoms you indicate you have. I recommend the generic products over the brand name ones as they have the same ingredients for much less cost.

I find NyQuil to be the best.
But of course, most otc drugs for colds DO NOT cure colds. They simply slow down your metabolism so you will be forced to rest more.
The best medicine for cold is still plenty of rest and lots of liquid.

Best is to go to your doctor, but at some health food stores there's a great herbal supplement called "Cold Snap". It's a little expensive, but it works wonders.

If the cold is primarily a lot of congestion mucinex works very well...

echinacia is the best, indians used it for cure alls,,, it boosts your imune system but have to take it first sight of symptoms
