I currently own a 1996 Honda Accord coupe, but I'm planning on having a vehicle that I can haul film gear in, in hopes that I can get equipment for my superiors on set. The concern I have is... well... I want a vehicle that will also allow me to get a date out in California... nobody want's to be taken to a nice restaurant in an old beat-up truck... unless it's something really old like one of those Land Rover Defenders from the late 1960s... the type you'd see on a safari...

Just curious, and want to see what others think.

I wouldn't date a woman who was interested in me for what I drove. I probably wouldn't even throw her a mercy ****.

First off, if you are trying to attract women with a vehicle, and it works, you are attracting the wrong type of women. If she won't go out in the vehicle you drive, she's the wrong type of woman.

Now, to stay in the same family, Honda, I'd try the Element, CRV, or Pilot. All work very well for carrying gear around.

If you aren't grossly opposed to American made vehicles, I'd have to recommend what I own, the Saturn Vue, or one of its corporate twins, the Chevy Equinox, or Pontiac Torrent.

All of the vehicles I've mentioned are great on gas and are multi-purpose.

If you want to go all out and get a truck but still have something the size of a car, try the Chevy Colarado, Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, or any 'mini' pick up. Stay away from the Dodge and Mitsi pick-ups because of gas mileage and transmission issues.

At any rate, before you buy, research the vehicle and comments on www.edmunds.com

you can get some really cool looking beat up trucks, but you will be sacrificing function and reliability so it will cost in repairs, etc. Depending on what you want to spend, you can get a Honda Element or Ridgeline. Personally, I like the old Monteros.
