I think it's all about money. He offends different groups and, by many, is viewed as stupid. He's also a fad of 2006. Why do ppl give him their money and the time of day?

I only search for various responses. I've already known about Sasha Baron Cohen, but am only interested in people's different points of view. In addition, as I see reality shows, Paris Hilton and the like, I realize the particulars behind marketing.
I only search for differences of opion, so please, only the serious-minded, or kindly press the "ENTER" key. Thank you and peace....

He's meant to be the embodiment of a stereotype. That people from everywhere else in the world are ***-backward, inbreeding, and ignorant.
Why his movie is funny is that he allows individuals to portray themselves for what they are. While the moments where he portrays himself as stupid and the people in the scene are like someone getting a Candid Camera hoax pulled on them are funny, the really funny, yet disturbing, scenes are the ones where the people reveal their bigotry, misogony, and ignorance. We think it's funny for people to be revealed for who they are.
By the way Borat is not a real person. The actor is a Jew named Sacha Baron Cohen from England. I mention he is a Jew because a lot of the jokes in the movie were made about Jews. He also played a "gangsta" named Ali G and was the French race car driver in "Talledega Nights."
Add:
Zandelia, from the way she asked the question, I couldn't be sure.

Sacha Baron Cohen uses his characters to point out the intolerance of others, and to show the tolerance of intolerance that exists. He's quite a deep guy, and has quite a bit to say in response to all of this.
I think that you are misunderstanding the point of all his humor, based on your own ignorance. Spend some time researching before mouthing off about someone.

NEWSFLASH: Every single current entertainer/actor/musician is a fad! Fashion is a fad, TV shows are a fad, Paris Hilton is a fad....our entire culture is based on 15 seconds of fame - just look at "reality TV". He is just one out of 1000's of current fads.

I think he was trying to bring things to the surface. Like those racist Southerners who seemed like such nice people. How gang members can be nice and helpful. I think he wanted to show the world for what it is, which is not black and white. I think he did a great job.

It's funny because it puts all of the stereotypes together and acts upon them. When you satirize people like that, it's funny. Plus he acts really stupid and does outlandish things that are funny.

That's the new style of comedy: pissing people off.
Borat is just a mainstream version of Jackass.
