I have a mini poodle...no shedding as they have wool not hair..they are good with children but as we have so sadly seen in the press no dog should ever be left alone with a child ...regardless of breed or size...they are animals and we should never get complacent and think we cant trust them 100%...

Both miniature schnauzers and poodles don't shed and are wonderful will children, but instead of looking for a certain breed of dog why not go online to your local humane society and find a dog there, they usually have pictures of wonderful dogs disperately in need of good homes and they give a little bio of the animal and they also tell if the are good with children.
Good luck

There is no such thing as a dog that does not shed, unless it is a hairless dog. There are ones who don't shed as much as others but there is no such thing as a dog that does not shed. If you cannot handle shedding then don't get a dog, it is as simple as that. As for getting a dog that is good with children, it is all in how you train the dog and how the kids treat it. Your best bet is to look in a shelter. A good rescue will get to know the dogs, maybe even have them in foster homes so they know how they react in a home situation. That way they could tell you what dog would go best withyour children and even give you a trial run type thing so you know for sure that the dog is right for you (and that you are right for the dog). Just whatever you do, no not buy from a newspaper, petstore, or flier. And do not buy from a "breeder" who sells mutts/designer dogs, all they are are backyard breeders.

Sorry, there is NO such thing as a dog who does not shed. All dogs have dander, and all dogs have some fur or hair.
No matter what they designer mutt breeders tell you, as well as those who buy the mutts, there is no such thing as a non-shedding dog. Sure, there are many low-shedding dogs, and even dogs the AKC considers as great for allergy-suufferers.
Many breeds can be considered great with children, depending on how well they are socialized and trained in their early life.
Visiting your local animal shelter and visiting with the dogs who appear super friendly and open to your kids is a great dog to consider.
You will be saving a life and the dog will thank you forever.

All dogs require some coat maintenance, albeit some a lot more than others!
A cocker spaniel, with hair kept short and manageable, is a wonderful family dog and great with children. A trip to the groomers for a hair cut once every 2-3 months keeps his coat short and lovely-looking.

Please do not believe anyone who tells you their dog does not shed.

It is a blatant lie and pretty stupid.

We have a mini Goldendoodle. Mom was a Golden Retrieve, dad was a miniature poodle. He will max out at 30 pounds and has a great temperament, He's almost 6 mos old now. He started out very mouthy and would like to put people's hands and clothes in his mouth, which was painful when he had his milk teeth, but he is learning now not to touch people with his teeth. This can be frightening for small children and those people not used to dogs. He has never bitten anyone out of agression and never ever bit down hard on my hand.

He has hair, so he doesn't shed (very much.. just some very fine hairs on the brush after grooming him. Nothing on the furniture)

Wheaton Terriers, Bichon Frise and Poodles are all nice non-shedding dogs. Depending on the size of dog you want and of course the space you have and ability to exercise and bond with the animal will affect your choices. Be very sure of the committment you are making, dogs have needs other than just food! All the humans in the house will need to be pack leaders! Read Cesars Way - a great book and big help in ensuring your dog is healthy, happy, well adjusted and good family memner!

Mini dachshunds are great dogs. If you get the smooth short hair kind they do not shed at all and they are great with children. I have a black and tan short smooth hair one and he is great with small children and older kids. He loves people and does not shed and he does not stink.

A standard poodle. Note I did not say a miniature or toy poodle, but a standard poodle is your best bet for being good with kids and not shedding. They also tend to become protective of their families, so your kids should have a friend for many, many years who will watch over them. An all around great breed of dog. :)

poodles arent that good with kids, ive heard lots of stories of poodles attacking little children, we have a short hair chihuahua, she is very good with kids, and love everyone. Its probably because weve had her since the day she was born and she was used to every one, but other than a chichuahua I think lab would do good, they shed, but mostly all dogs do, but they dont shed very much

I personally have had 2 Schauzers, still have my 4 year-old female, and suggest this type of dog to all the people I know whom would like to buy a dog. I personally prefer female schnauzer to male, but that is a personal preference...
Schauzers are hunting dogs, so they love to be outside, they are also very caring and protective of the ones they love, they are also obedient dogs (after obedience school, of course!), and respect their higher authority, which is good to teach children responsibility and authority.
Good Luck!
