My parents-in-law recently picked up a complete stranger from the airport that my sister-in-law (only 19) has been chatting with. The night after they met the guy they let her take off with him alone, in the car. She told them that she has been chatting with him for 4 years, they have only been chatting for 2 months. The parents obviously didn't do too much research if they didn't know this. I think I am just venting. The father-in-law said that they did a background check on they guy and it came up clean. ARE THEY CRAZY!!!

does anyone have advise as to how to talk to them about this. i mean, i really think they are horrible parents. i don't want her to end up in a ditch somewhere raped and beaten to death. she is far too small to defend herself, she weighs less than 90lbs. Her mom is just a complete moron and her dad thinks he is always right because he is a preacher. how do you talk to people like that about something that they did that was so stupid? and no she wouldn't have done it anyway bc she lives in the home, has no job, no car of her own. they can take the internet, car, or whatever away from her and there is nothing she could do if they would at the very least attempt to stop her.

oh, and she looks like she is 12 so she would be a perfect target for a pedophile.

Everybody on the internet is crazy. Including you, but not me.

I really don't see what the difference between meeting someone in real life and someone you met online. I mean you meet a guy/girl on the street and think they're nice but then you go out and they kill you. Being online just makes it easier for people to lie, but that's why most people say to meet anyone online with a friend or in a public place or when you're just out hanging around you should have a friend with you. I don't think she's crazy and she's 19 so she's legally an adult. Now if she was 17 or younger then I would think something was wrong because a lot of people target minors instead of adults.

First of all, No one on the internet will have the real answer for you, Only their opinions, The only way is to find out with communication. Second, You have been single after a relationship with a "loser" which may or may not have caused a few insecurities about dating someone else, If someone goes into extreme unnecessary details about an event it is normally a sign they are lying but like I said no one on here can be 100% sure about this, It's best just to talk it out and be honest, You don't want these feelings to come back and bite you later. I wish you the best. EDIT: After reading a few other comments on here, Yes, It is very simple to change the webcam and you can also change your voice too, If you want I can help you out, I can tell you who he REALLY is if you message me because i'd be pissed off if someone did this to my mother, You can message me on my profile and remind me what it's about, I'll let you know if he's the real deal or not.

My sister flew to Oregon, by herself, when she was 19 to meet a complete stranger from the internet. No one could dissuade her from going, and luckily she came back unharmed. Your sister-in-law will do what she wants to anyway; maybe her parents felt better having at least met him. Yes, the whole thing is crazy, but humans will be humans!

It really all depends on the type of person that one gets involved with on the computer. Of course, there are those "freaky perverts" out there; however, there are also just plain, reugular people looking for others.

My finance and I met almost two years ago in an online chatroom. We talked back and forth for one whole month and talked on the phone before we actually met. I really just depends one the personality of the other person. Hope things turn out well!

Yes they are. Net people are not always crazy killers or rapists sometimes they are just lonely people needing an outlet to make friends but why chance it? There have been countless charges against internet people for being sickos so what the hell would you let your kid run off with one for?

You are absolutely right. It is much too dangerous for your sister-in-law to go out with this guy alone. She doesn't really know what kind of guy she is, or if she can trust him. Tell her that she needs to be more careful than that and she needs to be with people when they go out.

They are absolutely crazy! That is so dangerous. What's to say they did the background check on who the guy really is?

ehhhh...it does sound slightly crazy, from a parent point of view...
then again, they must trust her judgement that the guy is safe, why wud she invite him over otherwise ???
it isnt that she went to meet him all alone, they were there and picked him up. only the day after they went off alone...

so i'd say you are just venting sum (anger/jealousy??)...

Time will tell...I met my hubby on myspace and met him 2wks later. We fell deeply in love and have been married for 8mos. YES! Background checks are great to do with anyone you met...even in person.
