Well, there are a few more questions that need answering in this situation.
1. is the bird you have now agressive towards you? If he/she is, iwould not put another bird in the cage.

If you have a happy well adjusted bird, he would probably LOVE a friend. But there is one issue with that. Right now, you are the bird's friend. When you add another bird, that new bird will take your place as his friend and they will be very affectionate to eat other and ignore you, and might even become more mean towards you. It work's similarly with a mirror. Many parakeet owners do not put mirrors inthier birds cage because they become too attached to thier reflection and never want to come outside.

I would keep them in separate cages if you want to maintain a cuddly relationship with your bird.

On the other hand, if your bird is already not handled very much and you will be out of the house more often and not able to play with him as much, another bird would be a great addition and you will see a much improved attitude in your bird.

Just please remember one thing, before you get another animal, make sure that you have the means to take care of it. ie money for food, vet bills, time to spend with them, and a big enough cage.

Hope everything works out

When dealing with budgerier (commonly called parakeets) the best sucess in multiple greater than 2 is with males. Females tend to be terratorial and generally cages are too small to allow sufficient territory.

As with any animal parakeets can have conflicting personalities which in the extreme could result in them killing each other. The odds are in there being a nonviolent relatinship.

Be sure that your cage is big enough for 2 birds. It it was rated for a cockatiel you should be fine, but if it was labeled as a parakeet cage you may have problems.

If the other parakeet has been a singleton for a while, it may be hard on them and they might attack the other one in revenge. If you really want them to be ok together, I suggest you buy another cage and put the cages side by side. When you notice the birds wanting to be together, then I would put them in one cage and see how they act towards each other. However, if your bird has only been alone for less than a week, then they should be fine together. Hope it works out:)

It is sort of a buy it and see what happens sort of deal. They all have their own personalities. Generally, since they are flock animals, there would be nothing wrong. Sometimes females get edgy about territory when they are wanting to lay eggs though, and that is generally when problems arrise if ever. You would probably just be making your parakeet much happier. Chances are they will fall in love.
