The French Foreign Legionnaires are granted French citizenship if they survive for five years. Could this be a solution to U.S.immigration problems, and a resource of healthy soldiers, rather than a draft?

Um foriegners can serve in any branch of the US military so long as they legally have a green cards and are of age (17 to 34 years or whatever the maximum age is). However, they cannot get any MOS that requires security clearances (special forces, intelligence, etc) and they cannot become Warrant Officers or Commissioned Officers unless if they become US citizens. I know plenty of Marines who are German, Polish, Portuguese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Mexican, who immigrated here as kids with their parents. They get bumped up to the line to become US citizens if they served. Many of the Medal of Honor recipients were Irish Americans, German Americans, Polish Americans, Italian Americans, and Mexican Americans who were immigrants.
The French military still have La Legion because only French citizens can join the regular French military branches. Foreigners cannot join the other branches of the French military except the FFL. It's like that in other NATO countries in Europe like the British Armed Forces where you have to be a citizen of their country to join. Whereas the US, you need a green card and immigrated here legally to enlist.

Yes, the Legion Entranger was founded with the cynical comment "Better foreign blood then French blood" of a King shining on the waning days of the french monarchy. The Roman empire was established by young Romans sent out with admonishment from their mother's"Come back with you shield or on it". This custom declined. So did Rome, until the foreigners that had been hired to fill the Legions ranks took over the government. Yes fill your army with foreigners while your citizens become more and more separated from the government that rules them and the finally the only ones who really care are foreigners. Remember, those people with all the guns.
