they are not "vital" to a persons survival. in my case they would have ended up killing me if i had not gotten them removed. when i was a child i had tonsilitis so bad that i was literally smothering in my sleep. i had to sleep sitting up until a doctor discovered the problem. (another doctor had said that i had mild sleep apnea and it would resolve itself as i got older). i was rushed into surgery and had a tonsilectomy, adenoidectomy, and even had windows cut into my sinuses. without that proceedure i may not be here today...would have just went to sleep and never woke up eventually. now i am healthy and have a strong immune system. dont listen to the people on the radio station.

This is just another scare story put out by some one in the pay of the drugs companies, no one knows what tonsils really do and there is no proof that having non is injurious to anyones health. This is the sort of rubbish that is now being peddled by scientists who are in the pay of big business and is typical of the way this country is going under the control of Tory Liar and his right wing lunatics like Ruth Kelly who probably thought up this trash.

~They were taken out for good reasons. Probably because you had a lot of infections, mainly strep throat. Your tonsils were too big, you couldn't get enough air, you snored. There are a lot of reasons for having them removed.
I'm sure the doctor weighed all the pros and cons of having them removed. Don't listen to those plagued in UK, you'll be fine.~

No, they are not vital - The help to fight off upper respiratory tract infections. If they become infected, or swollen so that they are blocking the airway or interferin with swallowing, they can be removed without a severe blow to the immune system in a tonsilectomy.

They are not 'vital'. They normally degenerate tp nothing in adulthood anyway, so you arent losing out long term.
Tonsillitis apart from being just damn annoying can actually get so severe it will impair a childs breathing. This is far more severe than anything the tonsils would actually prevent. So its wise to remove them.

No, they are not vital. They are usefull little bug catchers when they work properly, but your immune system can do a good and efficient job without one. Suggest you change your radio station, that one's full of c**p
