Give your dog a bath in liquid Dawn concentrated first then after your dog is dry use a product like Advantage or Frontline. It won't rub-off or get on your sheets after it is absorbed into the skin and it works for a month.

First of all, the pills from your veterinarian were called Capstar. Capstar is meant to intially rid the dog of fleas, but needs to be followed up with a topical treatment.
Secondly, as far as topical treatments, the safest for fleas only is Advantage. It's applied once monthly and is not only safe but very effective. It's something you purchase at your veterinarian and you need to use it for about 3 months to be sure that the problem does not reaccur (ie eggs hatching in the environment or layed on her infecting her). The packaging provides excellent directions. Please keep in mind that you should not bathe her three days before or three days after applying it. When you apply it, do not touch the area for a couple of hours. After that, you are good to go.
Thirdly, once you do this, you need to wash every piece of bedding she sleeps on, vaccuum the house top to bottom and throw the garbage bag outside in your trash barrel, and wash all of her toys. This should remove the enviromental fleas and eggs.
Lastly, DO NOT USE HARTZ products!! These are products that are not safe for the dogs. Dogs/cats have been known to die from the use (even proper use) or have severe reactions to this brand of topical treatment. They use very different chemicals than those you can purchase at your vets.

it's already been said but it's worth repeating.....do not use hartz products! some other people have said it works for them but i've always been told to steer clear of using dish soap on my pets. after all it's dish soap! i'm familiar with capstar as the only oral treatment for fleas. it kills the fleas that they have but doesn't have a lasting effect like topical treatments. there used to be an oral product called program that was supposed to last for one month but i don't think it's available anymore. i use advantage on my four dogs and two cats each and every month and i can't say enough great things about it. once you apply the advantage you shouldn't bathe them for two weeks. advantage is so safe that you can use it once every three weeks instead of only once a month in case you like to bathe your dog a little more often.

My combo for flea treatment is Sentinel (orally and as prescribed by the vet), it treats heartworm and kills developing fleas. This DOES NOT kill adult fleas that jump onto your dog from another source, it only stops their reproductive cycle.
Secondly, I bathe my dogs in Avon's Skin So Soft Original Scent Bath Oil. I learned this trick from dog owners I've met who've had dogs for over twenty years and in the two years I've had my own dogs they visit dog parks, dog events, dog adoption fairs (where I volunteer) and knock on wood have yet to come home with a flea.
Thirdly, if your dog always comes home with fleas after playing with the neighbor's dog, kindly mention it to your neighbor and if they won't treat their dog, than consider not allowing them to play together..it'll be sad but for the health of your dog.

Parti- coloured is not acceptable by AKC standard, if you were breeding to improve the breed why would you breed with a dog that doesn't fit the standard? The Yorkshire Terrier club of America does not recognize the colour either. You are doing no favours to the breed, don't breed. Also having champions in a pedigree does not make a dog good enough to breed, many pet puppies are born from champion parents. If your dog is so great, show her. If she's not, spay.

Give her brewer's yeast. You can buy it at PetSmart or Walmart in the pet section. Follow the directions on the bottle. I give my Yorkie and my Chihuahua each brewer's yeast every morning and after the first few days of them taking the flea's were gone.

Go to your vet, get some of the stuff that you dab on the middle of the back of her neck (where she can't lick it off). It's a tiny amount, it won't get spread onto your furniture etc, and it really works well.
Get yourself two of them, and give the dog next door a dose too. No point curing her if she's going to pick them up again straight away.

We use Frontline at our clinic.
If you apply it, you can't bathe them for three days, if you bathe them you can't apply it until 3 days after the bath. The natural oils in their skin is what allows the medication to be distributed all over their body.
My vet doesn't prescribe oral medication - he likes the results with Frontline.

Sentinel is oral, you will have to get it from the vet. http://www.ah.novartis.com/products/en/cab/sentinel.shtml Did your vet tell you to treat this dog 24 hours after you gave her the pills he gave you? I would treat her now with something like Frontline plus, or ask your vet about the Sentinel. You still have to keep her on it once a month.
