my friend who is leaving for africa. she is going to spend 3 months there volunteering at an orphanage and I want to get her something for her going away party....she already has a nice camera and an ipod(not that i was going to spend that much but just to help you out) PLEASE! IDEAS!

Does she have a sturdy case for her camera? A nice sized memory card? A tripod? Does she like any good audio books that she can place on her iPod?

A phone card would work wonders. It would help her during times of loneliness and homesick.
Another possibility would be a card game (such as Skip Bo). It'll keep her entertained. It would also help her keep the orphans entertained, as they will need people to play with them. If you can find a good, educational card game, that can really help the orphans, who likely have substandard education. Skip Bo helps with planning, but it's not terribly educational by itself.
