They bite them because they are an easy target... but they still bite adults too if they are chasing them or teasing or if they feel like it... where i live (Kansas City, MO) they banned pitbulls because there were so many attacks and some people had to go to the ER and 1 little kid died, i think , i am not for sure

Any breed will bite a little kid, or an adult for that matter, under the "right" circumstances.
One...little kids do NOT smell, sound or act like little adults. Their high pitched voices, squealing, and running can make them appear as prey to a dog of any breed.
The media is quick to make pit bull bites national news, but does not do the same for other breeds that bite and cause the same, or more, damage. Therefore, you are completely in the dark about the truth concerning dog bites. Years ago, the doberman was victim to this media frenzy.
You shouldn't beat the living "sheet" out of the dog, or shoot them..you should beat/shoot the owner of the dog and in many instances the parent of the child. Unless the dog gets into the fenced back yard of a child, the parent has just as much responsibility to be watching and looking out for their child to keep them safe from harm.

I agree with Woooh! Offer to pay the ER bill (even if it was ridiculous) so as to show that you feel bad for the incident. If it's just a nick; then I don't see why the authorities would do anything about it. Explain the situation. I don't know where you live, but they don't euthanize a dog for a first time offense where I live. My neighbor and his dog were attacked by two other neighborhood dogs (a pit and a gsd). Those dogs weren't current on shots, and were quarantined for a couple of weeks, then released back to the owners. If the child didn't even receive any stitches than I don't think there is anything to really be concerned about. In the future; don't allow your dog to be around children unless you are there monitoring the situation. Many children are not taught how to properly interact with dogs.

Not all do. All dogs will bite and be agressive if they are abused and live in a fearful enviroment. We just hear more about the Pits instead of, let's say, Golden Retrievers, b/c they have a stigma attached to them.
Pit Bulls by nature are actual very loyal and protective. They have been changed as a breed to fight and attack b/c of these idiots that fight them for sport.
I have a Pit Bull. He is a gem. The best dog I have ever been around. He loves my 22 month old and have never had a hesitation about getting rid of him when I was pregnant.
All kids should be supervised around dogs anyway. They are close to their size so that is why they tend to pick them.

It's not only pit bulls that bite kids. I know that for a fact, but most little kids terrorize dogs no matter what breed and they get tired of it. So, that's there way of telling them to stop. Alot of times it depends on the owner and how they trained them. I know someone that has a pit and a 2 year old and they get along great. All because of how she was raised.

Shame on you! The one thing that the press never tells anyone about is the living conditions of the dog that bit the child. How often was this child teasing or hurting this animal? Is the question we need to ask. Children are the worst for teasing an animal then when the animal has taken all it can defends itself with the only thing it has it then is put down.

Put yourself in any dogs perspective. Small children are active, they can trigger an instinct in a dog - similar to that of prey. They run, flap, make noise and most dogs that attack(notice not just pit bulls), it's because of the lack of training, the lack of respect shown by children towards the dog and the lack of socialization. Most children are not taught how to act appropriately around dogs, and many don't understand how to act if a dog attacks. And again, they are small and can not defend themselves like adults.
Given the chance, any dog will attack. Herding dogs nip at the heels of running children because they are taking care of their flock like they instinctively would at a farm. Working dogs push their weight around in order to act as a guardian and terriers aren't supposed to back down from anything-which is what a "pitbull" is- a terrier.

It seems to be mostly inbreeding of the dogs and maybe the owners. They can be nice dogs but they can be taught to be aggressive. Little kids will get in a dogs face or space in a heart beat as well which is not good especially if the dog is eating.

Children are loud, make sudden movements, tend to get in a dog's face, pull their tails, and usually have some type of food in their hand (Cheerios, cookies, etc). This is fine around your easy going Labrador(although he will happily take the food), but it makes an aggressive pit bull type very nervous. The dogs themselves are not bad unless they are raised that way. It is irresponsible owners--and sometimes parents--that need to be beaten and/or shot.

I don't even know what to think of your question and theroy on them.....I raised and bred Pitbulls and they were awesome with my kids as wells as others, it has to do with the way people raise them, if they are being raised badly then they are going to act badly just as a human would.....My kids could get down on the floor and wrestle with my full grown Pits......And NO it is not ok to beat or shoot them!!!
