Sometimes there are people on both sides who give the level headed ones a "bad name". Yeah, that's embarrassing.

Very rarely - I don't often meet atheists more hostile to religion than me but maybe Dawkins is closing the gap.
I feel a little embarrassed by anti-christians (they're more that than atheist) who chime in that jesus doesnt exist when someone asks a question about him.
I'm an atheist and I believe Jesus lived - more than that I think he was a great person, an ethical innovator. Just because you want to separate the supernatural from the fact doesn't mean you can toss out all of the bible - after all a SMALL amount of it is basically historical.

They're not my people. I have my own beliefs, and others have theirs.
Not all atheists believe or act the same way. I'll roll my eyes when I see a stupid atheist.
Likewise, not all Christians believe or act the same way. I roll my eyes at stupid Christians, but I know that not all Christians are that way.
I try to reserve judgment for individuals and not groups of people.
Well, except for maybe Westboro. Fred Phelps is so extreme, that I feel fairly justified in calling his entire cult a flock of idiots. I won't say that about all Catholics or Methodists or Muslims. Some groups you are able to dissect enough that you can find a "stupid cell." Some people may call it a cancer.

I only know of 3 Atheist and they are very good people. They would give anyone the last dime in their pocket, the shirt off their back, and help them out in anyway they could. I know alot of claim to be Christians that should be VERY EMBARASSED for the way they act towards others and treat others yet show up in church on Wednesday and Sundays in order to "keep up" with the Jones'. Then I know some Christians that should be very proud.

Yes, being I consider myself an atheist, I am embarrassed that they lash out at all religious people, rather than just those who harrass them.
I suspect many Christians feel the same way about thier fellow Christians.

No. The fact that someone shares some of my beliefs (ie, that there is no god) does not make them "my people". I choose the people that I identify with based on what they say, both on Y!A and in real life. When one of these people makes an argument that I think is invalid or could use some work, I let them know with constructive criticism. When someone says something incredibly retarded, regardless of their religion, I am embarrassed that we breath the same air and potentially share a common ancestor.

Christians - John 3:17 says that He did not come here to judge or condem. So what makes us think that we have the right? Be a follower of christ, not a God Stormtrooper.
Atheists - I used to be one of you. My heart beats for you, and your curiousity about life. What I didn't realize at the time, was that it takes an open mind to accept the possibility that there might be a God. Keep your mind open. I relate to most of you better than many I've met in the Christian world.

Hi sweetie. I am not an atheists or a Christian. I do relate and mostly side with the atheists, however. I am often amused at the religious bs that I see.

I don't know if embarrassed is the right word. I get upset at people who misrepresent Christ because I know that others judge Christianity by its people. Not all who claim to be Christian represent what Christ stands for. We all make mistakes. I am sad for those who choose against Christ because of people who are poorly representing Him. I would hope that everyone would look into Christ's life for themselves and judge Him by what He stands for.
