They're 2 and 3. Male JRT/Beagle and female Black Lab/Pointer mix. No more chewing, no running away, they come when they're called (even when loose at the dog park), they don't go "potty" in the house, they don't run out the door every time it's opened, and they're eating and drinking just fine. We feed them Natural Balance, walk them every day and take them to the dog park so they can run to their heart's content. We also work with them giving them things to do that stimulate their minds. My JRT sleeps a lot when he's not playing and doesn't go insane for attention. They're really good dogs now that we've gotten the separation anxiety and puppihood out of the way.
What am i doing wrong? By YA standards they should still be terrible dogs, right? I mean, everyone else on here does all these things and they're dogs are still troublemakers. I must have gotten lucky?
Anyone have an explanation?

I'm reporting you to the ASPCA. No dogs behave, EVER. You are obviously a bad dog mommy. I better hear some bad reports soon or you're in big trouble.
Good dogs........who ever heard of such nonsense.
And let me just say to the previous answerer who says she beats her dogs every Sunday? That's just wrong.
Everyone knows you beat your dog on Thursday night, duh.
hee hee :-)

I'm sure that your Jack Reagle Terrier and Black Labointer would start misbehaving again if you stuffed them in a sweater, put little boots on them, and carried them around in your Louis Vuitton pet purse for awhile. Can't afford a large enough one for the Labointer? Shame on you, you're a TERRIBLE pet owner.
You might also want to start feeding them a diet of raw organic hamburger mixed with milk and rice.
And, for God's sake... START BREEDING THEM A.S.A.P. I'm sure they're not fixed, because I know you wouldn't do something as cruel as that to your little furbabies... and do you have ANY IDEA how much BlackJack Reagointers are going for these days? Especially from full-breaded ones like you probably have.
Besides, every dog aspires to have at least one litter of puppies, and it's a GREAT learning experience. Especially when you can't sell them and end up having to take them to the shelter... that'll teach your kids a valuable lesson on how to get rid of things that are no longer convenient, something that is sure to benefit them later on in life.
Be sure to keep us updated, and we'll be here for you to let you know when your dog is pregnant, and when it goes into labor and you don't know what to do, just ask. Don't waste money on the vet or anything, by the way, we're all qualified experts here, and we'll be able to tell you a lot better than anyone else... besides, it'll cut into your profits.
Heh, heh... thanks for the laugh.

You know people all have their opinions & our dogs are just like our children .... so we think most of the time they are perfect. I don't think your dog was "guarding the gate" it sounds like he was just waiting by the gate for a new friend to come in. & you were right to tell her that her non-neutered dog was not allowed in the park & it is rude to not discipline your dog when it mounts another dog. Her dog was trying to show dominance to your poor baby & she didn't even try to stop it. How are the rules of the dog park enforced? Is there a manager that you can make aware of this woman & her aggresive dog? I think you handled it perfectly .... you didn't back down... you voiced your opinion ... .but then you didn't escalate to another crazy level either & just left. If you see her there again and her dog mounts your dog again be sure to let her know that it doesn't matter if her dog is the King of England's dog & blue blooded breeding dog 3 times champion at the Westminster dog show ..... it should NOT be there & you will be reporting her to the manager. Good luck to you & cub. - Steven

I can fix this for you. Stop feeding them good food and change it immediately to Ol' Roy! This will make sure they get sick a lot and have uncontrolled stools in your house! Next, take all their toys away and let them have your old shoes and socks so that they learn they can chew on anything with your scent on it. Your favorite pair of shoes or laptop will become their next favorite chew toy. Then, praise them every time they jump up on your guests or bite small children! This will strike fear in all of your friends and relatives! Finally, let them loose out your front door so they can go do their business in the neighbor's yards and chase the neighborhood kids, loose cats, and people walking their dogs.
Once you have done all of this, your dogs will fit right in here!!!

I can't believe it - you're a responsible dog owner!
Amen to you and by working with your dogs like you do, you help give the breeds a good name.
I bet you love it when someone says-I want a dog just like your's! And you know the key to it and are more then willing to pass that one to others?
Keep it up!

Shame on you! You must be terribly mean to your 'furbabies' to make them behave like that!!! They probably cower in FEAR! You should not be allowed to have dogs!
LOL!!!
When I take a few of my Hounds out for walks I commonly get stopped by people saying "how do you do that" or "I wish MY dog would walk like that". I just say they can, with a little work.

I have two pups that also are pretty well behaved. Even around the children, and they allow us to have a full life without simply being 'masters', maybe we should form some sort of club to comfort one another and try to find answers.

How dare you come on here if you have properly trained dogs. This is a site for those who only pretend to spend time and effort on their dogs. You cant do the right thing and still be qualified to answer here. If you do the trolls will delete your questions and answers. Get a grip and stop using common sense. There is absolutely no room for that on here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My you are active today?

I have unadoptable dogs - All of them have some issue that makes them unadoptable but only the old deaf one doesn't listen but if the rest come barreling through the house she comes too as not to miss anything. When they all go out I have to close the door after everyone comes in and once she realizes she is out there with no one to torment she will come to the back porch.
I never did in training classes. Never begged them to roll over or do tricks for me but its amazing I can stand with the door open and they stay inside. Back door is another issue its their door its their yard.
All I can say is I took care of the basics. They were all crated when they were young now all five have free reign of the house. Okay they do jump on me but I like it.
I think its simple routine being consistent in your day to day affairs they know. If Im am on the phone and say "Ill talk to you later" they all run to the back door it time to go out and raise h*ll. If I say "time to make the donuts" They go the front door for a bye bye kiss and pat mommy is leaving for work.
Also its having a relationship with them. Not just as property that you put in a crate and out of the way but I tell them what I am doing ask them what they are doing. Tell them to get out of my way. If they are upset such as all the racket on new years I tell them they are okay and thy settle right down. They have learned to trust me I am their alpha. I do let them get over on me (A lot) but all in all mommy gives them food and water. Mommy has to open their back door and mommy has the treats. I always make sure they have what they need as dogs and sometimes they get lots of extras. If they do something stupid. I ask them if they feel better. I have fallen over them and stepped on them so many times there is no need to ever hit them cause mommy does stupid stuff too. We forgive each other for our shortcomings.
Hey I took all five to petsmart to have a picture with santa. They did just as good as anyone with only 2 dogs. I got them all inthe same pic this year.
