It all depends of how much coffee you plan on drinking, and how strong you like your coffee. The typical amount is, 2 tablespoons for every cup.

As everyone else said" How big is the pot?" I almost never make a full pot. I use the about 1/4 to 1/2 inch rule of thumb measurement. If I am making say 6 cups I put into the filter about 1/4" deep mound of coffee. That is smoothed at the top. I use mister coffee filters. If you use the cone type filters I use about 1 to 1 1/2 inches of coffee in the filter. If I am making more then I add more coffee. Now I use in general a robust coffee. I may add more if it is a weak coffee.

I would actually measure how many cups your pot can fill. So if your pot fills 5 cups of coffee and if youre using instant and you'd usually put a teaspoon full of instant per cup, i'd opt to use 5 tsp + 2 tsp for the pot.

Depends on whether you like real coffee or colored water.

Not to be ruined by adding junk like sugar, artificial sweetener, cream, etc: Black only!

If you like real coffee 1 1/2 to 2 heaping tablespoons of coffee per cup. Preferably Dark Roast Community or next best Folgers.

If you like colored water for coffee: Then one level tablespoon per cup.

I believe the rule of thumb is one tablespoon for each cup of coffee.

Figure out how many cups your pot holds and use that many tbsp for each cup, simple as that.
