Since there are many people claiming that holy texts (bible, quran, or any others) contain predictions which came true, I ask you to present me with some of them, which should fit the following description:
- a prediction of events occurring in our present time frame, let's say from the 20nd century onwards
- a prediction which is expressed in a way that the predicted event cannot be mistaken (general gloom and doom predictions, or predictions without naming place and time in a more than general way, are of no interest)
- a prediction of an event which has not a big chance to occur (a prediction saying "earthquake in Asia between 1950 and 1975" can be made by anyone)
Please provide a source for your answer if you have one. Thank you for your attention.

Gizelle, thank you for being the first one to make a serious attempt, I'll have to check them up.
rocky, thanks for the link, the prophecies there seem very repetitive though.
Suzanne, thanks for your contribution, may I ask who is the one king of Israel who is mentioned in the prophecy?
Pilgrim, I cannot see that this prophecy has come true.
Queen, the prophecies about the past are interesting, but I cannot verify today whether the fact came after the prophecy or not.
Thanks to all so far.

I believe that the most amazing prophecy to come true recently has been the rebirth of the nation of Israel. After being "dead" for 1,260 years, such a rebirth isn't likely without divine intervention.
This is prophesied in several places in the Bible, most notably at Ezekiel Chapters 36 and 37. Of note, Ezekiel 37:21-22 reads:
21 “Then say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; 22 and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again."
Notice verse 22a tells us Israel will be "one nation." After Solomon's death, Israel was split up into two nations: Judea (made up of the members of the Tribe of Judah) and Israel (made up of all the rest of the Tribes). It remained this way until after Jesus' death, when the Second Dispursion occurred.
So we actually have THREE prophesies at Ezekiel 36 and 37, all of which have been fulfilled:
1) the Jews would be regathered from all the nations to repopulate the land of Israel;
2) Israel as a nation would be reborn, which occurred in May, 1948;
3) Israel would again be one nation, instead of two.

Of course there are examples of "prophecies" which came true.
The problem is the focus on the small number of predictions which happen to have come true (by chance, reasonable guess, whatever) versus the much greater number which don't come true. This is nothing more than luck or informed speculation.
In the case of religious texts like the Bible, the classic problems are ambiguity (many of the prophecies were reasonable speculation about short-term events in the middle east but have been miscast to present day) and the delay in writing and/or translation of the so-called "prophecies" until after the supposedly predicted event.

Commentary on the Gospel of Saint Mathew–22—by Swami Nirmalananda Giri "Chills and thrills, volcanic eruptions, and overwhelming revelations are the products of Satan..." This statement is probably true about most Revelations. However, some Prophecies made by the Prophets of God may be partially true. Keep in mind that any Prophecies made by God's people were probably changed or slightly altered by devil worshippers. Check out my question "Do you think the birth of the Red Heifers born in the 1990's is proof that the Messiah is coming soon?" There is an important message for everyone.

Bible prophecies do not deal only with the ancient past. They also accurately foretell events that are taking place in our 20th century. For example, just review Matthew chapter 24, Luke chapter 21, 2 Timothy 3:1-5, and Revelation 6:3-8, and you will see how precisely the Bible describes modern-day happenings. It is worth noting that after the first world war, when the League of Nations was established, world leaders asserted that man had learned a bitter lesson and that there would never be another world war. The Bible, on the other hand, reveals that the untold suffering caused by the first world war was only the “beginning of pangs of distress.” (Matthew 24:8) History proves that Bible prophecy is completely accurate and that man’s thinking is erroneous.

With all due respect, people who claim prophetic dimensions for the Bible simply do not understand what the Bible is, and why it is important. (I cannot speak for the Qu'uran but my understanding is that it is the word of God as dictated to the prophet Mohammed, blessed be his name, and that prophecy is not integral to either its understanding or its use.)
There are many cases of prophecy which have come true, and those appear in many societies over the centuries, including our own. But the Bible is not a source of that kind of prophecy.
Now there are prophetic writings in the Old Testament which have been claimed to predict the birth of the Messiah and many of these have been attached to the birth and events in the life of Jesus Christ. Most of the so-called prophecies that Christ seems to speak in the New Testament were, most probably, added by writers after the fact.
But the Bible is not a prophetic book, at least not in the way you have outlined here - and anyone who claims it is simply does not understand the text or the purpose.

Well, I'd like to say that those who claim bible prophecies are vague have obviously not actually studied them.
There are for examples hundreds of prophecies relating to the birth of Jesus Christ that were fulfilled in precise detail. Including one that a lot of people are not aware of. Many people are aware Jesus was born in Bethlehem. However are you aware that the there were two Bethlehem's at the time and that Isaiah correctly prophecied which of the two (Bethlehem Ephratha) he would be born in?
The destruction of ancient Babylon was also prophecied in great detail by the prophet Isaiah, down to the name of it's conquerer ... Cyrus the Great (Isaiah 44:27 thru Isaiah 45:2)and can be confirmed by history. SECULAR history confirms that the Babylonians were caught by surprise... the moat they had created around the city had been pretty much drained and the giant doors leading into the city had inexplicably left unlocked. I'll be honest and tell you that I don't have the secular history references memorized so I'll get back to you on that as soon as I can.

Naturalbor..., I can respect that and I have to tell you I am very impressed that you are taking this search so seriously.
There are prophecies that were written thousands of years ago as well that have come true in our day. The rise and fall of certain world powers are listed in great detail in the book of Daniel. That includes The Anglo-American world power. IF you choose, the next time you come across one of Jehovah's Witnesses, ask them for a publication entitled Daniel's prophecy. It's pretty amazing in how it breaks down the time lines and references secular historians.
If nothing else, I would pray for God's help in your search. That he direct you to the truth. Only he can draw you to it.
All the best to you in your search. You are exhibiting the truth of what Jesus said in his Sermon on the Mount: "happy are those conscious of their spiritual need."

In the Old Testament Book of Jeremiah the Prophet, chapter 30 is about the nation of Israel and the land of Israel.
Jeremiah 30:3 contains a prophecy that Israel shall return to their land and possess it as their own at some future date.
In May of 1948, this prophecy was fulfilled when Israel becomes its own sovereign state again. They have fought foes which surround their borders, and have defeated their enemies in 1957, 1963, 1967...right up to current headlines.
Hamas and Hizbollah have vowed to obliterate Israel. But God will fight their battles with them, and they will never again be removed from the land.

(sounds of crickets chirping)
Vague predictions of earthquakes are an easy one since they happen constantly as war or rumors of war as they are another constant. Plagues are another since flus and disease were another constant (presumably caused by evil spirits which some TV preachers still believe when they rebuke "Satan" for making believers sick, Several of the prophecies of Jesus did NOT come true- when asked when the world would end he stated to his disciples that they would not taste of death until these things (the end) came to pass.
