check out this page. my friend had twins one month before my daughter was born. my daughter always seemed to do things a little before my friends children did. her children's pediatrician said that is common with twins, especially a slight speech delay. this could be due to the fact that twins are often born prematurely (my friends were a month early so technically they are about the same age as my daughter. also I've heard that twins find ways to communicate with each other and don't have the need to verbalize with others as much. i'm sure they will catch up soon! i would however mention this with you pediatrician, and he or see will help you decide if they need a little extra help. all kids are different so don't worry to much.

At my daughter's 24 month visit, the pediatrician explained that the average 2 year old should be using between 50-100 words (though they may not always be decipherable). That of course varies among children. Check out the two links below. The first one seems to address your question best.

Depending on where you live, your school district may provide free screening and, if necessary, early intervention. In many areas they will even send someone to your house. This could set your mind at ease.

Good luck!
