Well since so many leftists tell me I should join up and fight. Are you joining Peace Corps or Americoprs and helping those less fortunate? If not, you are a hypocrite.

BTW, I did over 20 years of military service, so save your foul breath and just answer the question. mk

The War on Poverty is a battle we cannot hope to win.

Decades later, with trillions of dollars spent, negative progress being made, and no clear exit strategy. Talk about a "quagmire"!

Theres more poor people than ever. Time to cun-and-run from this misadventure.

To fight poverty one must put their resources in places and efforts that have the potential to make a lasting difference. Much charity has only served to prolong and exacerbate poverty. There are organizations such as World Vision who are trying a long range approach. They focus on education, infrastructure, establishing businesses and marketable skills among the poor. They have learned to avoid putting resources in places they will be exploited. For example, they focus on a particular village in Africa, lending small amounts of money to people to begin businesses that serve a need and will be in demand. They do not subsidize in places where their input will hurt other businesses or enterprises or in places where corruption will spoil or exploit the economic growth. They try to see the big picture. They have learned what does not work and they avoid what has failed in the past. Fighting poverty is fruitless in a world without justice. War is necessary sometimes to establish justice and opportunity or to destroy evil.

All the countries that fought poverty and not wars eventually were taken over. The populace killed or enslaved and food stores captured. Are the dead poor? Thank you for your service, even Jesus had to admit there would always be poor.

We fought the war on poverty - poverty won.

The sad fact of the matter is that in order to end the poverty in foreign countries - they have to change the culture that created and maintains that poverty.
