Most will only wake up when something near and dear to THEMSELVES is threatened or taken. Until then, they won't care. I see it every day. We continue to give up freedoms for: the safety of the children (my favorite)
our safety
our health
others health
animals health
animals safety

The list goes on and on. Most sit back and continue to get fat, while saying "that doesn't concern me". Wake up people, or should I say sheepole, neither side gives a chit about you. By the time the masses wake up it will be too late.

As soon as the Democrat and Republican parties lose their strangehold on American politics - so never?

The answer isn't getting people to the polls - all that does is solidify the validity of the two party system, and place either one or the other in power. If all those who have some respect for the free exchange of ideas, and who feel that partisan politics are pointless and idiotic, stay away from the polls, maybe the entire system will eventually lose what little credibility it has left, and force substantial changes.

There does seem to be a gradual movement towards people dissociating themselves from the two major political parties - more and more seem to choose to be unaligned.

It seems that most people with half-opened minds and any bit of reason within them must be approaching the limit of what they can stand, with the constant back-and-forth partisan garbage that permeates all forms of media in this country. There are so many responses just on Yahoo! Answers for which it only takes reading the first sentence to begin to feel sick to my stomach, and to question whether America really has any hope for the future. George Washington warned us about the scourge of political parties (and foreign entanglements), and he'd probably want to head back to the grave if he could see things now.

Your question leaves me with a few of my own. Who are these "libs and cons" you're so worked up about? What makes this "your" country, and not theirs as well? Why do you think that you're so much much more intelligent and aware than all the rest of "americans" (usually spelled Americans, by the way)? Do you know what the legal definition of "traitor" is, and if so, why are you misusing the term? And finally, where is this "down" that the vast majority of Americans seem to be taking America?

Answer me those, and I'll give you the next bunch of questions...

You say my country, is that USA, or Canada?
Doesn't really matter, if you are from Canada, you have enough of your own problems to deal with, rather than worry about the USA. As far as Liberals, I believe the Conservatives have been in power the last 12 years. Now it will be the Democrats. And in this great nation, we are all AMERICANS FIRST! Then there are Conservatives and liberals as well as moderates on both sides of the isle.
If our system is so bad, why are we the greatest superpower in the World?
It is a great system, we have just had the wrong people running it.

I wouldn't have any problem wit the two party system if both or either party had the best interests of this country at heart. However, they don't. At the very least we need to stop voting for the incumbent or vote for third party candidates who aren't career politicians.

The biggest problem is that so many people are completely enthralled with the two parties doctrine that they cannot see the harm it is doing.

Inspite of your opinion of our libs and cons America, I assume you mean the USA, gets better evey day. By any measure we are much better then we ever were. When's the last time you turned your light switch ON and the lights didn't go on? How many time it did go on? Compare the two...

Do the same with your hot and cold water faucet and toilet flusher.

When we, the Citizens of the United States, take our responsibilities seriously and we hold our elected and appointed officials accountable. Right now, only money talks while law-abiding citizens are working two or three jobs just to survive.

Why not join Citizens Protecting Your Rights and other groups all over the country in sending pink post cards to our elected and appointed officials. The postcards state: You're fired!!! For failure to protect our borders from all enemies, foreign and domestic; for failure to uphold your oath of office and the Constitution and Laws of the Land and for failure to enforce our laws against illegal aliens and all those who hire, harbor and help them.

For all of us to escape this system, some of us will have to throw their bodies on the proverbial swords of the police and military who are funded and controlled by the super rich corporate elite. So I guess its when living life is too painful.
